Saltcedar, thank you for the quick response. Esh, thank you for the confirmation. Prunum serotina and Morella (Myric) cerifera are certainly plants I'd like to leave in place for the birds, if possible. The middle plant looks like a shrub to me. Something about the way it grows reminds me of a rose bush (no thorns on these). There are 4 or 5 of them growing close togeter in a clump. Some only have 1 stem at this point. They're small, the tallest one is less than 2 feet high. They were almost covered with Chinese honeysuckle and greenbriar vines when I noticed them. That said, it must be a pretty tough plant. Anyway, I did get better pictures. I think they're pretty little plants...hope it's not a weed. There's one thing for sure, I'm never shy about posting pictures. LOL Thanks again! Bon

English Ivy produces very good hold-fasts that will help it cling. Unless the wood is pressure treated preserved wood humidity will build up and rot it in very short time. I would never choose ivy, as it seldom stops and has designs on the entire planet. Despite the extra trouble, I would build a fence or screen that allows air to flow behind it and plant some other of the many beautiful vines that will grow in your zone. I can think of several that are evergreen or not, some liking shade and some liking sun.
