Comments (8)I don't know of a metal hood replacement, but if the plastic replacement costs $300, imagine what a metal one would go for. I've been on the fence for a while about forking out the $$$ for a new hood for my GT262 (same hood). It's a design flaw which they fixed with my next-generation GT225. Mine looks fine, but when you lift it to access the engine, the whole thing just comes off. No big deal, but it's not practical to leave the lights hooked up. The hood is in two pieces, an upper and lower. The $300 part is just the lower. The whole thing is something like $500. I wouldn't pay JD the labor to replace it. It shouldn't be hard, just a lot of bolts. I don't know if the exhaust makes the plastic brittle at the hinges or what, but it's a shame they didn't come up with a redesigned hood for these tractors....See MoreJD L111 Hard Start (Valve Problem?)
Comments (7)This didn't just start happening. It did it last year as well but then went away. I am not saying it is not the battery but it starts after turning the flywheel slightly. I did take the valve covers off and checked the lash. Sitting in the seat of the tractor the left cylinder top valve had about .009". The other 4 were about .004 - .006. Can these be adjusted by just loosening the locknut and adjusting the torx head to take the lash to about .004 - .006 like the others and then tightening the locknut again? Comments (9)Last January I had the same problem on my 1991 265 JD which had a 17HP single cylinder Kawasaki engine. First I adjusted the valves to a .006 clearance. This somewhat helped the kickback when trying to get it started but did not fix the hard starting. My JD dealer said it could be either the ignition coil or the igniter but he could not tell me which it was. I bought both pieces for slightly over $100.00, installed them both and this tractor has never started better than it does now. This engine had what I thought was good spark but I guess it was not hot enough. Hope this helps....See More300ft_anin
