This is a hardy bush cherry, do you get cold enough for this? a 2" pot is tiny, but these guys are usually tough, so if you are planning on keeping it in the group, go ahead and put it in the ground (protect it from wildlife too). but if you plan to keep it in a pot, then go ahead and pot it up.

I'd planted it in a larger pot..[grows faster] keep the pot shaded...then plant it in the fall and protect from rodents.

You guys are killing me. You live in zone 7 and are buying our zone 2 sour cherries.

There is a million way better types of cherries you could be growing. I’ve tatsed all of the romance series cherries including crimson passion and they are not worth the effort. crimson passion is a light producer it’s the only one I’ve never seen loaded up with heavy fruit set. The fruit compared to other sour cherries maybe a bit better Juliet is the best tasting in my opinion from that series. I could almost guarantee your sour cherries montmorency being one variety will be much better than any romance series.

Montmorency would be similar to our Evans. I think these shrub cherries can fit better in home gardens then a Montmorency. I've seen some of the romance series loaded, [not mine] but seems a hit and miss, Evans is more reliable. Actually..most of the romance series are better then Montmorency..just a little smaller, darker, firmer and higher in sugar, but do they produce in zone 7? I'd try Balaton.

I will put it in a bigger pot in the shade and plant it in the ground in the Fall. I believe we can grow them in zone 7. I hope so! It does get cold here. It was 31 F this morning, and it's mid April! I know that is not cold for Alberta, but it is cold for us! Anyway, others on this forum live in zones 7 & 8 and grow them. We cannot grow sweet cherries -- too hot. I have Romeo and Juliet also, but they arrived much larger than my little Crimson Passion stick. I thought I would give it a try and see hat happens.
