Need Help Landscaping Odd Shaped Lot
Comments (8)The Nootka cypress in the above cartoon will be out over the pavement in a few years. If you do not have a history of caring for a yard full of plantings you might want to take it easy at first, maybe instead keep most of the lawn - which you can probably renovate fairly easily rather than replace - unless you really just do not like summer dormant lawns. Which it sounds like the utility there may be effectively mandating, by limiting water use. Otherwise a successful approach might be to cut way back on the turf area in the back but keep most of it in the front, with something simple like a group of boulders combined with a single, clumping habit specimen plant - bamboo would be perfect but it likes water - near the center of the lawn where it will be the most effective visually. And with no plantings on the sides or at the ends, where they might affect vehicle access or sight lines while driving. Unless they are required by community rules I would also remove the row of shade trees across the front as for starters they throw the bed out of balance visually. And I certainly wouldn't replace them with the purple Norway maples shown in the cartoon, with their large eventual size, weedy seedlings, tendency to kill everything underneath and their heavy aphid drip - which is already well underway this year in our region....See MoreNeed help with furniture Placement in odd shaped living room
Comments (15)If it was just my husband and I it would be fine the way it is. with children it’s a huge safety issue because if they stand on the couch they can go down the stairs. It’s driving me crazy to say the least. I feel others might look at the room differently than I would and would have a better idea...See MoreOdd Shaped Family Room-Need Help with Furniture Layout!!
Comments (8)I like your current arrangement. For more seating, you can use two longer sofas in the same arrangement. Or a sofa with two chairs as you have it but without the ottomans. That leaves room for a backless bench type of seating to face into the conversation area that wouldn't interfere with the TV. With any options, your seating area is rectangular, so a rug would be fine to use. You may have room for a narrow console table behind the sofa facing the tv, if you place a sofa there....See MoreNeed help with rug choice for very odd-shaped long entry hall
Comments (0)I'll be decorating a newly built craftsman-style home with an odd-shaped entry hall due to the room configuration on the left side. The floors will be a medium shade of hardwood. The hall is 8 feet wide at the entry door, widens to 12 feet wide where the guest bathroom, den, and guest bedroom create a half-octagon on the left side of the hall due to an indentation, and then narrows again to 8 feet after the guest bedroom. I will put a table on the right entry hall wall but the hall still seems too wide for standard runners. What width rug or rugs to use? Do I ignore the half-hexagon shape? How many rugs for such a long hallway? I would appreciate any help offered because I'm really confused. Thanks in advance!...See MoreRawketgrl
