Need help with furniture placement for an odd shaped room!
Comments (15)Does your FP work in both rooms? Is there another option for guests to get to the DR without those two openings? Your large sofa is in a good place but it (and the sewing machine) seem to be blocking that doorway to the DR. I'd consider closing at least that one, if not both openings. The loveseat needs to be replaced with a pair of chairs and a table. That will eliminate the bulk that is cutting off the window side of the room. Consider placing a game table and chairs in the window area. Another option would be to float sofa facing the FP with two small scale chairs flanking it with a coffee table accessible to all the seats (18" or less from each.) A sofa table could face the entry, and then the window area could still handle a small game table and chairs. If you're not into games, a bench under the center window would provide additional seating. In any case, I'd find another location for the sewing machine, and consider end tables. They should arrive 1" above or below sofa arms (same for chairs with a side table.) Here are a couple of inspirations for a game table....See MoreFurniture help for odd shaped multi use room
Comments (1)Looking for advice on what to do with this odd(ish) room. Intended use will be kitchen / dining room / sitting area. I don't need a formal tv space, as our tv will be in another room, although we were thinking about putting up a samsung frame above the fireplace for cooking videos and such. For the sitting area, I'd love to be able to play board games, curl up and read a book, or have coffee chats. I also love function, so a table, or sideboard to store keys or any other useful stuff is great! Any and all advice is appreciated. Couple of key points: With the exception of the dining room table, i'm not married to any of the furniture, so it can go or stay. If possible I'd like to fit the coffee table, but I realize it's large so not a deal breaker. The alcove space to the right of the refrigerator has been ear-marked this pantry, Which we definitely need, so not much can go there. The side of the island facing the fireplace, has cabinets, which are in active use (hold pressure cooker and such) so furniture can't be pushed up against it. The window to the right of the french doors (in the pictures it has a green pillow against it) has a doggy door, so that can't be covered either. The measurement from fireplace to island is 113 inches. Left edge of gray cabinet to right edge of the fire place is 98.5 inches. The wall color is gray / green. It's greenish during the day and grayish at night. I'm so lost as to what to do. Pictures will be posted below....See Morehelp with furniture layout for really oddly shaped family room
Comments (4)The stove is gas and we've never used it. I would love to tear out all the brickwork but the original chimney is walled off behind it so it would be a huge, expensive project if it's even structurally feasible. This house has a lot of projects and the main level is my priority so the wet bar will have to wait even though it would be great to have that done. Maybe I can find a slide to attach to the wet bar...they climb on it anyway...and then put the climber on the back deck if it will fit. My boys play outside a ton when we have snow, but 2/3 of the winter we have no snow and apparently it's not so much fun to play outside when it's cold, windy, and dry. We did have the room open for a playroom when we first moved in but then DH insisted on getting that sectional. I would have preferred just a couch and more open space. Maybe if I split the sectional up I can make the room more open again....See MoreHelp!! I need ideas for furniture layout for this oddly shaped room
Comments (12)Can you take a photo of the wall that has the stairs…the one people believe will be able to accommodate a huge TV for your family? This is a young family who has tried to create some storage for their young children by building the storage beside the fireplace. Perhaps you can add an additional shelf area above the book shelves that have been created, as Beverly has suggested? But, that said, it isn’t necessary to do so. The idea of a long sofa against the bay window is a lovely one. A large open area with a few chairs (swivel), an ottoman coffee table, space for children to play…. Imperatives for a young family!...See Morekellycmackay75
