Another ID needed

This is kind of a small tree. I live in North Carolina Zone 7. It's in my yard at the house I just purchased. I have a variety of other nice plants around it so I'm assuming this isn't an overgrown weed or something. Thanks!

I had the same thought. Probably seeded in there, perhaps via a bird on the fence.

that is a rather big tree.. in a very small pot .. and the pot is filled with dirt rather than potting media .... put the pot in full shade for the rest of summer ... and in fall pot it properly.. for a tree ... presuming you just dug it up.. its stressed enough for right now ... see you in the tree forum for further info, now that you got the ID ken

This is definitely not Baptisia - it grows from a clump and is very lupine-like. You may have a different one than the pest we have out here, which is similar but is nearly a shrub, and erect and very tall, 6 ft and more. Unlike back east, we have had a very cool spring and the summer plants are barely showing. I will check to see if the foliage is the same.
