Waterproof TV for bathroom
Comments (16)dm, I wouldn't if the TV was in front of me (g) Elaine said "And could see the TV in reflection from vanity mirrors, or at least hear it". Maybe where she is considering putting the TV, she can't see it direct and would need to view it from the reflection in the mirror. Where ever I put my TV, I'm not going to be able to view it from my vanity and tub. If I position it to view from the tub, it will be at my back when I'm at the vanity and vice versa. Does that make sense?...See MoreWaterproofed stucco walls in bathroom - anyone done this?
Comments (14)You can get that first photo look fairly easily. Just have all your product tinted at the same time so you have color uniformity from layer to layer. Going three layers instead of two will also help even out any variations in color. The standard application is to apply it with metal trowels. You can do that, but to minimize color variation, once all coats are on you can go over it with a sponge float. The sponge flota will even out the entire surface, with regards to both texture and color. It's not an overly difficult product to apply. You could probably take a class and go DIY if you wanted the satisfaction of knowing your did it yourself. In general, it's a 2-day process to apply the two or three coats, then another day to soap/stone the surface. Stoning the surface, THAT was the tedious part. Wax on, wax off, times a thousand. I called Schluter tech support, they recommended skim coating the Kerdi with thinset. Let it cure. Then apply the plaster over the thinset. I'd add in if you want a white finish as in your first photo, use white thinset instead of gray over the Kerdi. Same as in my previous post. The skim coat will get mask the Kerdi orange color as well as get rid of thickness differentials at the seams. Thinset is a lot less expensive than the plaster/clay material....See MoreHelp with bathrooms. Divide to two bathrooms or do one large bathroom?
Comments (15)I agree with Cpartist"s layout and like moving the closet over as suggested by D M so that bedroom 3 has easier access to the bathroom. Do you have room to have the toilet face the tub and add a linen cabinet next to the toilet? How wide is the tub toilet area?...See MoreLarge bathroom without window
Comments (10)Honestly windows in a bathroom are overrated. Much of the time I am using my bathroom when there would be no natural light regardless of how large a window there was. In fact for some purposes, natural light isn't that great. For example, I had an eastern exposure which made it almost impossible to put on makeup in the morning without cutting off the natural light because there was too much glare - and heat. What is important is that your bathroom has plenty of LIGHT. I have canned lights including in the shower. I also have sconces and my "grooming" area has specific lights for that. In terms of feeling "light" - obviously lighter colors, mirrors and bright finishes do that. My master bath has a light feeling but I deliberately opted for a more "somber" feel in the guest bathroom so I have a copper sink with dark granite and my fixtures are trimmed with green marble versus the light blush onyx in the master bath which has light marble....See Morekudzu9
