Cedar Waxwings being Murdered

rekabmik

We live on a little over 20 acres. For the past few days, I have been finding dead Cedar Waxwings (a total of 6 so far). Their heads are completely severed from the body, but the body is completely intact. It looks like the head is also complete. There aren't piles of feathers or anything like that. I usually find them near the base of a tree.

I know we have some Red Shouldered Hawks around, but it seems like it happens at night. I walk my dogs in the same areas and don't notice them in the early evening, but the next morning they are there.

Anyone have any ideas?
