Kind of new to brugs, any advice!
Comments (14)Hi! Sorry that I didnt update this thread! I thought I did, but I guess my message never sent! Anyways, I'll try to catch up.... The first flush of blooms only consisted of 3 blooms, but I was still very happy! Now the plant is much bigger and this second flush will bring at least 20 blooms! Im very excited! The bug problem kind of took care of itself. The new leaves only have small bug holes, and its not too noticeable! Im really happy and I hope they dont come back! Heres a pic of one of the blooms from early July.. I'll post some pics in a day or 2 of what my brug looks like now and some more recent blooms! This next pic is of a bud taken today! And heres a few pics of some OT plants in my yard... I have a frostproof gardenia in the ground and usually it blooms in the late spring, but it has a bloom on it today! The fragrance is very nice and it happens to be about 5 feet from my Brug so that pathway is going to be very fragrant the next few days!! Here are my plants by the pool! My papaya is budding! Plumerias are another very fragrant flower! I had to stand on a chair to take a pic of this plumeria bloom! I never would have guessed that my spiral ginger would have gotten as tall as me, but it did and its still growing! Thanks everyone for the kind words! I might start a new thread with the new Brug blooms, and if your a bit disappointed with the lack of Brug blooms in these pics, dont worry because I think Im going end up buying a lot more next summer since they are beautiful flowers!!...See MoreBeautifying window exteriors on a bland basic house
Comments (49)How did this get so long and I never saw it! One comment from way up at the top.... ALL the houses you pictured in your neighborhood had the faux shutters removed. Doesn't that tell you something? For one thing, yours are too short, and do not contribute a thing to the appearance of the house, except upkeep. One house has a panel of some sort beneath a window. Would it be something to consider adding a high backed bench under the one north facing window? Another home had the tall pencil slim Italian cypress, Those had to be there many years to get that tall. Consider something vertical like those plants. Very little upkeep, you sure don't have to prune them. I hate making more work for myself or my DH, so avoid anything requiring seasonal maintenance. Don't know what gardening zone you are in, but cruise the neighborhood and see what you like that looks good, and buy some. Paint colors can be so iffy. But to avoid mistakes, continue to PhotoShop until it looks right. Don't cut it up with a lot of colors though. If you want to detail something do it on that huge garage door of yours....See MoreNew house/cabin build in the woods- help us make it look old!
Comments (22)You can always look for a real log cabin that can be moved- $$$, but super authentic! I live in an 1840’s log cabin- authenticity is about building processes as much as materials. The craftsmen skilled in the old ways are few and far between these days, but they can be found especially if you live in an area with older homes. Our home has a dry stack stone foundation and two dry stack beehive chimneys, exposed log with lime mortar inside and board and batton siding, medium to wide plank hardwood flooring (we were able to save much of the original floor, so it’s not tongue and groove), and our main floor ceiling has the second floor joists exposed. We just replaced a ~50 year old standing seam metal roof, black, with another but discovered that the first roof has been added directly on top of cedar shake. Its worth it to us, but for what it’s worth, it’s not an easy home to maintain. The lime mortar is hella dusty and has to be cared for and repointed, our board and batton is painted and must be redone every 10 years or so. The floors are nearly impossible to deep clean (steamer is my method of attack) because they are uneven and have gaps. So historical accuracy may not be the best choice for a vacation cabin ;)...See MoreAny advice would be appreciated! Exterior paint / Stone porch
Comments (46)Grover any chance you can show me what it would look like with no railing and pulling the left side of the steps a bit more to the left (towards the end of the window) i was just looking at greige color schemes and I’m feeling super over whelmed. looks like a darker warm brown with a light grey compliments and contrasts with each (went through your color schemes) so now im thinking... the silver traverntine for the top of the steps and the top of the porch with a more brown stack stone color for the pillar, and light post? Or should I reverse it? Make a darker slate for the top of the porch/steps and a lighter grey with warm tones for the stack stone? God... I’m going crazy...See MoreMarni Finder
