Design Dilemma living room

Curtain Advice Needed!!

I’m needing some advice in my breakfast area, and a small nook I have to leads to a half bath. I have curtains in my living room that are a natural linen. I’m wondering if I should do the same curtains in the breakfast area or could I pass with a different pattern? Also, what would you do with that small nook window. Keep in mind these are all along the same wall separated by columns but can be seen as soon as you come into the living room. Just don’t want it to be too much. Needing some advice! Thanks so much!

Hello! From the pictures it looks like the wall color is the same in both the living and dining areas. That being the case, I think you can't go wrong by using the same linen curtains in both areas since it will make the spaces look cohesive. In the little nook window, I'd remove the blinds and place a roman shade, either a fun fabric or a woven shade for texture.

I think you need more panels in the LR area. The set up now looks skimpy. The door and the beam in the wall in the dining area will make panels look cramped so I would go with a roman shade on that window and the nook window.

This question frequently comes up. It is such a personal decision based on whether or not you need heat/light/privacy control. Do you open your windows? Do you want to see your view? What kind of look do you prefer? I do not use any shades that can be seen during the day. They come down in the bathrooms after dark. I greatly dislike shades that cover the windows 24/7. How do your window treatments look from the outside? I always prefer curtains or shutters because I like that look. Dark blinds or shades create a cave-like feeling. Do you want light/bright interiors?

@Patricia Colwell I need blackout drapes because this room serves as a guest room as well. The white wall unit behind the desk is a murphy bed. @jackowskib these drapes were supposed to be off-white, believe it or not. It originally bothered me that they weren't in real life, but I really liked the gold embroidery to tie in with the other gold accents in the room. And they were different than the typical sold drapes. But I do have this alternate set I am also considering... They are a true cream/off-white. I also like the subtle pattern that ties to the rug, and the white details coordinate with the white murphy bed (which I wish was an off-white, but I didn't have options). They are not blackout, only room-darkening, but maybe that's enough.

Thank you both for the replies! I'll see if I have some local professionals to reach out to for help as well. As far as the heights of the ceiling and trays at each level, that is something I'll have to get. Still moving in really, just thought I would get a head start with this because privacy and light control both needed. Light control mainly because the TV would be affected at least without the option to control the lighting. There are 4 recessed LEDs in each level of the trays, total of 8 LEDs as well as the light/ceiling fan combo. Plenty of lighting inside. I have not posted pictures of nautical decor, alot of what I have including draperies that were in use are deep/dark hues of sea blues and greens with lighter accents. Some hand carved wood accents closer to the color of the flooring you seen in the picture. Just in my head, that darker sea blues and greens would not seem to go with that flooring, or am I wrong there? Curious if I'm needing to switch up to lighter browns/coral colors or something for my nautical/coastal look. I'll post more pictures, room is like 23ftx23ft.

You could use the same linen on the wider window and something else (roman blind perhaps) in the alcove. I would take the two middle panels you have and slide them over to the edges to make the drapes look more substantial on each end. Leave the middle spaces between the windows bare. (Treat the three windows as one.) There is now the effect a lot of repetition of small stripes.
