Comments (2)When you add a finish to white oak it darkens, as do all hardwoods. So a clear finish on your white oak is going to be darker than I think you are looking for. Comments (18)There have been some great suggestions, but I feel like we’re working in a vacuum here. What is your vision for your home? Although this has focused on the knotty pine, whether to paint it, and what flooring to pick, so much of the process is about the style you want, the furniture you have (or will buy), the colors you like, and the budget. I could go with light oak flooring, old Oriental rugs, nautical touches, red and navy and off-white, but I could also pick a dark green marmoleum floor, Morris chairs, black painted bookcases, a more rustic vibe, and plaids. Comments (1)Keep the hardwood if you can. Get a wood flooring expert to quote restaining and advise you on your color choices. With White oak you should be able to add these to your carpeted rooms for a grand unified look. The faux wood options have their place but when you can invest in wood why downgrade. Comments (19)HU, it means "A pigment containing white lead", It actually dates back centuries when people used liming wax to treat wood and furniture to keep insects away. As of now it means, "filling the grain w/a liming wax or white paint without tinting the wood" The grain is deeper than the surrounding wood surface so the pigment fills in. the trick is sealing off the wood portion without sealing up the grain. an alcohol/shellac mixture is used on the wood to prevent it from absorbing the white, but it still leaves the grain open.
