Blooming in the greenhouse today

The second daylily to bloom in the greenhouse is Dr. Stump. We just couldn't grow this one outside so we overwinter it in the greenhouse. We put some pollen on the flower today. It would be nice to get one as toothy as Dr. Stump with better vigor and cold hardiness.

I'm on the fence about teeth, but, from what I've seen, Dr. Stump has such an orderly arrangement of teeth that it has always intrigued me. More like fringe then teeth. Your picture is a good example of why I find it interesting..... I can remember it going on the auction and reaching astronomical prices when it first came out. The lack of vigor bothers me though. I spent too much on a daylily a few years back (for my wallet anyway) and it's grown backwards ever since. It typifies what a plant without vigor can do. I hope you come up with some interesting, but more vigorous crosses. That fringe is unique and I appreciate the heads up on its growing habit...........Maryl

Ooh! I wanted that one badly, but did not want to spend the money. I got over it, as with most wants. Good for you, I hope you succeed in your goal.

Great job capturing the glory of the individual flowers. Are you growing your loddigesii and uncum with a watering schedule similar to that of anosmum? Also, you posted a pic of such a beautiful D. aggregatum. My plant I've had for a few years is beggining to develop "eyes" on the sides of the pbulbs. Should I sart fertilizing it or just water? My unicum has long been a piece of mulch, though I'll someday try again.

David it's beautiful!!! I almost killed mine this past Spring. It is recovering and is still giving me two spikes. Perhaps with TLC mine will look more like your plant next year. Love this plant! How's the fragrance? Sheila :)

By the way, this daylily's name is really Dr Celia Stump. We call it Dr Stump all the time and I forget what its real name is.
