Help w/ an Ailing Sans. Pinguicula Please
Comments (4)Hiya Norma, Sorry to be a while, I hadn't looked back here at Sans. in some time. The irony of my lost Pinguicula is that for the 2 yrs. I had it, it was just fine. I watered it maybe twice a month & it was just fine (in a C&S mix w/ extra pumice), no mushy leaves, no discoloring or any other signs of unhappiness. (Jeff had brought it w/ him on his last visit to NYC & it was a particularly handsome & regal looking specimen.) Its surviving pup which I had detached, looks OK but is doing absolutely nothing, just sits there looking at me. Hope your pup does well, I envy your growing climate & greenhouse. Nice to see you around my dear!...See MorePlease help me ID my Sans...
Comments (23)Thanks Barbmock! I want to share a little info about S. Jaboa, the leaf propagation is True-To-Type. It produce the same as parents. Now I separate them into 2 pots. I thought I could fit them in 1 pot, but I was wrong. Here is the photos from 1 of the pot I took after the repotting. In the area that I live, the climates are good for tropical plants. But not for plants that require colder weather. For example, no matter how much I like the Azaleas, Mapples, Prunus, even if managed to grow, may not even bloom. Grass always greener on the other side of the fences, right? :) Lots of people grow Sans here, maybe 7 out of 10 houses have Sans in their garden/yard. Most of them are S. Laurentii, very common, easy to find and cheap too. around 50 cents a pot. Not many people here aware that the plant's name is Sansevieria, the famous name for Sans here is Mother-In-Law's Tounge. :)...See MorePlease help identify this succulent! Jade? Kalanchoe? Propagating?
Comments (4)As you can see in your last picture above, it will propagate by forming babies (bulbils) on the edge of the leaves. Those will fall off, root and give you more plants. You can also do cuttings. I let them callus a day and put them in my gritty mix. They root nicely, just like most Kalanchoe do. The mother plant will also branch and be a bit fuller. I beheaded this one and you can see new side branches forming. I have not tried to propagate leaves alone, but I would imagine it would work the same as other succulent leaves....See MoreSans ID suggestions please
Comments (8)Thanks for the ID Barb, they're really attractive fellas, such cool forms, so different than the usual. I almost want to call it Sans. Octopus for its arms in all directions at once. Thx Socks but I think not, think I'll seat it on the cut stems, not the roots. Have you ever seen these in person? The roots are thick & gnarly, but dry, like they've never been in dirt. Opinion pls Barb, how to seat these, on the cut stem end, or one of the walking roots?...See Morerobinswfl
