Paint Building a Home Design Dilemma

best white trim for Classic Gray walls?

My exterior brick is Ballet white with Revere Pewter trim. Should I stay with these tones inside? I like classic gray for walls but I am concerned it might look mismatched with the colors outside... Needing a soft white wall, and enough contrast on trim and doors. Thoughts?

Benjamin Moore’s Ballet White is too khaki/beige and too dark for the interior next to Classic Gray. I’d stick with Cotton Balls or Linen White, for creamy but not too stark.

If you are specifically wanting an off white you could go with Ballet White or Swiss Coffee on cabinets and such, but it’s going to probably read too dark to be considered a white shade next to the Classic Gray - it will look more creamy and tan, which could still be beautiful, but I’d not put that on every piece of trim and door but use it as a creamy contrast next to the whiter shades and the stronger gray.

Nobody can see your inside and outside at the same time. Not even you. Inside paint is determined by preference, your light and exposures, and rugs and furnishings.

I would go with paper white, which is lighter and a bit more creamy. Looks cleaner. I dont like classic gray. It looks like a muddy dingy color to me, and I always want to take a scrub cloth to it, when I see it. LOL

cdisimone - I have very similar color cabinets and granite in my kitchen except my backsplash is lighter and floors are very dark porcelain, wood look tile. I've been looking for a color that will work throughout the majority of my house too. After weeks of deliberating, I started with my dining room and painted Shoji White last night. Not sure I like it....it does not look warm or creamy in my house at all. It looks like a very light cool gray. :-( I was going more for a warm white so I can brighten things up but still have the warm, cozy feel. I'm going to give it a few days before continuing on through the rest of my house. My suggestion is to paint an entire wall or much larger sample on your wall before deciding!

Thanks Patricia. Sure we can easily change the bulbs to 3000k (or perhaps 3500k?). The rest of the house will be Greek Villa (GV) walls & ceilings (all flat), and we were thinking SW Acier trim (satin). Our furniture leans MCM (largely walnut); our couch is a velvet sapphire/cobalt blue. Norwood - regarding warmer grays, are there any you would suggest? We were trying to stay pretty neutral and Light French Grey seemed to fit that bill. Do you think it wouldn't work well with hardwood floors? Thanks again! P.S. I liked the look in this photo below, which inspired exploring contrast trim (I realize it's cooler and more contrasty than GV/Acier).

Wall paint is your last element to choose as it is one you will likely change within 5-10 years. The other choices are FOREVER so get them right first. Classic gray is a horrible dead choice. It will bring the entire room DOWN to a depressing cave. Go for something cheery and uplifting. Cabinets should be a wood stain or white. Anything else will limit. Cabinets should not be a fashion statement unless you have the funds to change them out every five years too.
