Willette Dining room set needs help, should I refinish?
Comments (1)I am always a supporter of "restoration" instead or "refinishing" If you strip a finish and apply a new finish etc it looks like a new table and ruins the wood's natural patina. This is what they mean by discouraging refinishing. My suggestion would to research furniture restoration techniques to determine what your problem may be. It is probably a wax finish. There are many articles on repairing water damage on wax finishes. You could also search for "furniture restoration or repair" in your area to consult a professional....See MoreHelp me refinish my great-grandmother's dresser
Comments (3)The wood looks to be birch. I would apply a preconditioner, and then use a gel stain which gives better coverage than the oil base. With gel stain you kinda buff it on, rather than oil base that let soak in....See MoreShould I leave food or anything for the floor refinisher?
Comments (41)Inthebiz, I NEVER said anything about offering breakfast or any sort of meal, I said the offer of a beverage or snack to ONLY the people doing work at your home. You are making it sound like everyone here prepares a 5 course meal for their and the neighbor's workers, massages their feet and treats them to a facial. If you were asked to deliver something to someone's home, wouldn't you feel appreciated if they simply said "would you like a bottled water?"? You yourself said "Anyone wonder why its so hard to get good help nowdays?". I think your attitude is why you can't get good help. Nearly everyone who works for me on a regular basis gives me above average service. I tip my cleaning crew and always offer them cold beverages; my ceiling fans don't have a speck of dust on them, and that isn't even a service they usually provide, same with my wood blinds. They do things for me that is not on the list. Why? The owner of the company said I was her favorite client, the crew appreciates being noticed. Briosafarm said it best: In the simplest cases it's an easy and small courtesy; say the d/w repair guy arrives at 8:30 a.m. and the coffee pot is still on...what trouble is it for me to offer a cup? In other cases it seems to mean a lot more; for instance when outdoor laborers are here working in the heat, offering cold water and inviting them to sit in a lawnchair in the shade or on the porch while eating their lunch seems to mean a lot more to them than it puts me out! Sometimes I've gotten the impression that it's the recognition of their labor, comfort and the courtesy of the offer that means more than the actual cooler of water or whatever. Off my soapbox now, bottom line is to treat everyone the way you would like to be treated. The world would be a lot nicer place if we all did this....See MoreWhat kind of artwork should I put above my dressers.
Comments (5)Thanks Patricia. I was considering that possibility as well. Each dresser measures 32" wide. The ceilings are vaulted. What size do you think would work? Maybe 24 wide by 36 tall? I will definitely be posting more pics for advice. I'm in the middle of disassembling my bed to put my new one in and I have curtains coming today that I need to hang. I'll be looking for advice on the whole space to help finish it up. They may not look it, but they're a bit too tall for night tables. I have a pair of Tommy Bahama nightstands that my husband bought and is really attached to, so I need to keep those anyway. I do plan on refinishing those as well as adding new hardware....See Moretatts
