I could not agree more. I am so tired of being talked to about medical supplies, life insurance etc. It is depressing. I record things I want to watch and enjoy FF through those commercials.
Oh I can’t live without TV. It’s my only form of news & entertainment. Aside from the KT!
I DVR shows at night but I still have the TV on all day.
Sadly when I watch a show from DVR it goes so fast without commercials. Last week I was so frustrated I decided to time the amount of commercials on an hour long show on ABC.
29 minutes. Pathetic.
Even the news drives me crazy when they come back from a commercial for 45 seconds and go right back to more commercials.
I notice commercials for medicine and surgical procedures during the morning and afternoons, then mostly auto sales - new and used autos - in the evenings. Altho I don't watch tv during the day normally, I notice the commercials for meds when I do. So who's got the most money these days? The medical and auto industry!
JeCrigler -I agree with you 100%. The amount of actual programming is ridiculous.
My TV is on all day but mostly for noise while I do things. I’m not sure the names of the channels but I like the tiny homes, hoarders, 600 pound life, treehouse masters, animal cops, golden girls & I love Lucy. Most are all reruns but I still enjoy them.
Whats funny is how much they’ve cut the shows to include lots more commercials from when the shows originally aired 30+ years ago.
A lot of the episodes on the shows I have on dvd are about 20 minutes long. That means when a 30 minute show is on tv there are 10 minutes worth of commercials :\
I understand pharmaceutical companies need to make money too but with all the advertising I feel that's becoming a conflict of interest. You go to the dr and they say this is wrong take this. It shouldn't be a drug rep took me to a nice restaurant so I'll prescribe this to everyone. Or for patients I saw this drug on tv and I think I need it. Not only that but drug companies get money from all sorts of charities to find "cures".
The lawyers here would be Hughes and Coleman, Ponce Law, Blair Durham, the entire Morgan family, and Podis & Podis. I have them memorized, but not like they want. I'd surely avoid them at all costs ;) I wish them well, but I plan on avoiding them like the plague should I ever need their type of law help.
gardengal is right! Turn the TV off. Quit paying for TV, and all that crap is no longer available... I mean, the HGTV and such... and it is sooo much easier to just leave the TV off.
We watch only on Thursdays, Big Bang, Young Sheldon and Mom.
That's what remote controls are for. When commercials come on, I go shopping. I flip to one of the shopping channels to see what's going on. Or I flip to HGTV to see what's on. I never watch commercials, so I have little idea who's selling what.
That’s a good idea. I don’t think the shopping channels have commercial breaks? Unfortunately most of the networks go to commercials at or around the same time so we’re stuck.
lol, I try to do the same as clearwaters but I swear the stations catch on after a bit and start running commercials at the same time. Thus I switch back and forth to a PBS or cable channel with no commercials.
I watch very little tv but I do tune in to a morning news/entertainment show and an evening news show. In the morning there is a gal with a bare pregnant belly advertising some kind of cream to keep that belly soft and it annoys the cwap out of me. I do not want to see a stranger's bare belly with my morning coffee, no matter how cute and young she is and no matter how wonderful the miracle of birth is.
Here in Florida (I never noticed this so much back in NJ) we see TOO MANY car dealership commercials and lawyer commercials. OMG. There is one loud, fast talking and obnoxious (just my opinion) couple who sell cars and the lady has a choke hold on their dog which is always sitting on the hood of a car. I think someday I'll write a complaint to the ASPCA just to make myself feel better LOL.
I am an expert at hitting either mute or off on my remote :)
I used to mute the sound and exercise my eyes during commercials, now I dvr everything I watch and ff it. I don't watch more than two hours a day unless there's bad weather and I'll watch a movie. Detest commercials and never really remember what they were selling.
Ditto with Yayagal in our house. We stopped watching morning TV last year...what a time suck. We put on the TV now only in the evening and watch something on our DVR or on Netflix or Prime. We stop at 2-3 hrs and read before going to bed. I keep the radio or Pandora on during the day if the house feels too quiet. When forced by circumstance to endure commercials, we do anything we can to avoid them...bathroom break, read, check the phone...anything. Except Subaru commercials. We actually go online to watch those dogs. Better than some shows. (Yes, our furkid is a Golden.)
If I need noise when I am home, I turn on talk radio, The only trouble is they pound a topic to death for 2 hours, and it could have been discussed in 20 minutes. And when I can concentrate and need noise, I listen to books on CD from the library. Boring tasks go so much faster.
No commercials ... and a good many interesting subjects discussed (in much under two hours) on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio One, at www.cbc.ca, also on Sirius 169.
Interview relating to Dr. Hawking, by a colleague Dr. Page, now of Edmonton, who worked in his home also, including some discussion of the topic of his belief in God (or lack of it), led by host Bob Macdonald, who discusses a variety of aspects of various issues relating to science, at cbc.ca/quirks (the program is Quirks and Quarks).
An emergency room doctor discusses a variety of medically-related topics at www.cbc.ca/whitecoat - proram is "White Coat- Black Art".
