Prep The trim, doors and window sashes need to be clean and dull. That's easy to do with Dirtex and #220 sandpaper. Be sure to caulk any gaps between trim and walls, door and window jambs, etc. (Those areas are not usually caulked when stained). Caulk after washing, sanding and primer. Primer. Fresh Start acrylic latex primer. You certainly don't need the inconvenience of alkyd primer. Paint. Aura, in Satin unless you like a higher sheen. A high quality paint brush for both the primer and the paint. For primer, a Purdy XL. You want a stiffer brush for primer. For paint, a Purdy Chinex. Or, your choice of any equivalent brushes.

You have very nice trim. I sure wouldnt be painting it. If you really have to have white cabinets, then just have white walls, and leave the trim. I dont mind painted trim, but, I really do not like white trim, nor do I like white kitchen cabinets, although, I do like cabinets painted in colors.. Your house looks very warm and inviting the way it is right now.

Thanks for your advice. I hate the wood cabinets and even though it’s a trend we are refacing with white cabinets. We have too many shades of wood so I think white will brighten it up and compliment if we can pull it in somewhere else even if it’s just the baseb or decor. All Alabaster trim looks great with Alabaster walls, but potentially can become a real headache down the line if you are likely to fancy whiter, more neutral wall colours. For the trim then is more colourful, less neutral than the walls which may limit some choices.(not a problem if more neutral whites are unlikely) FOR ceilings suggest either Alabaster or Delicate White or Extra White. Delicate White or Extra White & Alabaster have enough difference in Chroma (colorfulness) that the walls would not appear dingy by comparison. Which option you choose depends upon how much contrast you enjoy between wall and trim. Even Alabaster will offer subtle contrast when painted in a different sheen on the trim, the other suggestions will show a stronger contrast and feel more crisp. Ceilings painted the same colour as the walls can often look a little darker and more greyed by comparison. actual Ceiling paint can appear very stark in some lighting.
