Anyone like their long, narrow bathroom?
Comments (27)>>Generally people are drawn to rooms with windows on at least two sides and avoid rooms with windows on only one side. >> That made me laugh. I have a master bedroom 18x24', and a long narrow bathroom 6x13'. I argued with my contractor because I wanted to replace one wall with its window to have a full width closet instead. He sighed and said, "Look, it HAS to be there. It's the only place we can put a 5' window to meet fire codes." Darn - I could have had 45' of closet space instead of only 26'! I had reservations about a long narrow bathroom - similar to your Option #2, without the extra shower area - but we love it. Would it be nice to have 7x13 instead? Yes, but we have no trouble with both of us using the bathroom as it is, at the same time - and we are not small people. Although next time I design a bathroom, I will have separate sinks divided by a linen closet, instead of the linen closet at the end of the run. My DH's stuff keeps 'creeping' onto my side of the counter. Obviously 36" isn't enough for him - he wants the whole 6' to himself, LOL! I've posted this photo quite a few times before, but it's been a while so it might have fallen off by now. Here's what a 6' width looks like:...See MoreHave you remodeled or do you have a long narrow master bath?
Comments (12)I have a master bathroom that is somewhere around 12' long by less than 5' wide. It is layed out almost exactly as yillimuh's with the exception of the door being placed on the long end opposite the shower. The bathroom is from the 1970s and in need of remodeling (bright blue sink and toilet, falling apart tile shower, white painted falling apart vanity, falling apart orange plastic shower door), so I have no pictures to share. The layout is very functional for us. My significant other and I can easily get ready in the bathroom together. We do have to do a bit of squeezing by at the door if I'm doing something like drying my hair (I have the far end sink by the door) when he wants to enter or exit. And a shower door opening by the toilet will be a little tight (right now we have some hideous accordion style orange plastic disaster from the 1970s). In my remodel (sometime in the near future) I will be doing most everything in white to make the space feel larger. I will be using Daltile Navelli Carrera Star 12"x12" tiles (already purchased) and white toilet and sink. I hope to have a white vanity (similar to RH's Hutton vanities) custom made for me since the space does not fit the vanities I love. I hope to do clear frameless glass shower doors. The space does have a nice large window, though it faces the street so the shades are never open....See Moremaster closet in master bathroom yes or no and why?
Comments (86)I much prefer the closet off the bath and easy access from the closet to the laundry. Ours is a walk though closet approx 15' x 7' 6". Doors opposite each other giving DH a space of a bit more than 5' x 7'6" and I have about 7' x 7' 6" on my end, so basically two decent sized, but not overly large walk in closets sharing a 3' walk through between the bath and my office (but steps from laundry). DH slept in this morning. I showered and got ready for the day, put up laundry, and dried a load of towels and put them up all without disturbing DH. During the day, I most frequently access the closet and master bath from my office. Very convenient....See MoreAdvice please re: master bed/bath/closet layout
Comments (22)Thank you artistsharonva and scottie mom!! Scottie mom- love your drawing of your bathroom! Looks fantastic. I was thinking that tone is probably as dark as I want to go. Thank you so much for posting all that! I’ve had issues with photos too. Argh. All, question re: bedroom furniture... I need all new furniture. I have my grandmothers set from the 1960s! So there’s an awesome furniture store in my town that carries a brand made locally (well, LA is 1.5hrs..). They will customize pieces and they have a bunch of stain and paint options. So, I don’t think I want all matching but I’m thinking about 2 different colors... maybe 2 dressers in same, then nightstands in another? Headboard will be fabric (different). Thoughts? Good or bad idea? Other suggestions? Thank you!...See MoreAllison0704
