how to get rid of grass and building a retaining wall
Comments (1)Yes I'm thinking of doing that. The dirt is kind of compact do you think I could just take the grass out with a shovel. I took a lot out today but some of them have that deep white root that just goes under really deep. So I should use a tiller to till out most of the grass. Then put some kind of plastic tarp or something to prvent the weed from growing. Then put on a layer of mulch. Then pour the soil over and start building the retaining wall then add perennials. Do you think one layer of plastic is enough?...See MoreWe are thinking of getting rid of our fireplace; how valuable is it?

Comments (10)S...I am not positive about this...but it may not be anything at all. It is possible that that simply is a result of your avo getting torched from the sun. If you look closely at your healthy trees...you will notice a "flecking" on the exterior skin of branches. Some varieties (like Fuerte) can be more "flecked" than others. Perhaps, this just a physical reaction to heat/drying out....See MoreWhat type of brick/stone should we use for our retaining wall/bench?
Comments (3)I like a brick color with a grey stone. Around here that typically means granite for the stone since it is supplied locally, but a bluestone or a gray cement would work well. Just make sure that it works well color-wise with your red and gray pavers as well as with the house color. I would only use two masonry materials in such a small space, though if you want your fire pit to be a freestanding metal piece, I don’t think that will be a conflict....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
