Best way to remove dog hair in the wash?

So I've had dogs before, but they've all been dogs with longer fur. We have adopted (or been adopted by) an American Bulldog this time around, though, and his fur is making me nuts. It's very short (and white) and coarse, and it's REALLY tenacious about sticking on/into fabrics. The standard trick of something sticky to grab it and pull it off seems to not work particularly well.

Does anyone know any tricks or tips for getting the hair to wash off? I'm wondering if fabric softener or something would help. (Dryer sheet?) Right now we just use an LG front loader and Tide Free detergent, no fabric softener.

Liquid fabric softener would be better than dryer sheets. I understand your dilemma. We used to have German Short hair Pointers, and I would have to take tweezers to my bras to get the hairs out.

Probably going to have to vacuum furniture daily. As for the dogs bedding make a duvet cover out of flat sheets. Hair is easier to remove from sheets and should roll off easy with a wide sticky lint roller

Straw broom? :o Really?! Hummmmm Research the Mint Automatic Floor Sweeper and Wet Mop. Look at the reviews. Not a vacuum, a sweeper and wet mop. love Love LOVE mine!!! There are two models. Would you consider trying a shedding tool on your dog? I've had a black lab, so I know what you're up against. I have two cats now and use a furminator on them, especially in spring shedding season. It's easy to use, it pulls the dead fur out of their coats *before* it has a chance to get stuck on your furniture. Not the answer you were looking for, but it's definitely worth trying. What about using a leaf blower on the surface before you power wash? I can't imagine the power washer not getting the dust off though. I would think that you would want to use a high quality slow drying exterior oil primer for the project because to be honest exterior acrylic primers are still unproven in my view for exterior wood. Oil based is still what the paint stores sells me if I want professional results. The aluminum paint would work fine on the nail heads but I would worry about that flashing through to the finish coat. Is there a rust inhibiting oil based primer you can use to take care of the nail heads and the priming with one product? I'm not sure because I don't deal with rusty nails that much but maybe somebody else knows what that product may be or if there is even such a thing.

The new machines don't have lint filters you can clean and if you go over to the laundry forum, you'll see where people are indeed having issues with them and lint/hair. It's a big issue for people who have septic systems (the synthetic lint, not the biodegradable pet hair). The new machines allow more residue to go out with the wash water. I have a twenty pound dog, so I cover his dog-bed cusion with a pillow slip. That's easily shook out and laundered with my dirtier clothing. I sometimes baby-sit my daughter's large breed dogs and I took them to a laundromat too, and ran them through the big machines. I don't have to do that anymore, however, because I'm eccentric enough when I bought my last washer, I got a wringer washer, even though a new one is as expensive as some of the bells and whistles front loaders. It had to be imported from overseas, since they aren't made in America anymore. My wringer handles any size load and with the big drain-hole and screen lint isn't an issue anymore. The dog bedding goes in last.

The trouble is his hair also gets on clothes even with grooming regularly. And then it does seem basically like we need tweezers, and while I will accept that some stuff may just need that attention because of the weave, it seems wrong that it sticks so well even to smoother textured stuff like leggings and yoga pants.

Luckily before we got him someone taught him that he isn’t allowed on furniture unless a blanket is there first, so the damage on furniture is limited. We just keep a few throw-type things handy to put down when he’s going to be allowed up.

I’m working on teaching him that being vacuumed is fun (get the hair before it can get stuck anywhere else!) but that’s a process. And I’m sure he will still shed some between grooming sessions because all dogs do.

So I should try a normal amount of fabric softener in the wash? We haven’t typically felt the need for it but that was pre-dog-hair-dilemma. (For towels I do add white vinegar in the rinse because I don’t like it when they come out crunchy.)

According to Google, they( several articles) say to add 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse and to use a dryer sheet or dryer balls when drying. I would try the dryer sheet or maybe cut it in half and use half. Try vinegar also. If I had dog hair I would try anything to help stop the problem.
