I think you have to consider what the island will be used for and where the can lights/recessed lights will be in relation to the island. With an island that size, I would think that 3 pendants would work, but I have seen some really cool hundi-stule lanterns (Pottery Barn) above islands. They may only use 2 if the pendants are large... HTH Capegirl

What's the wattage of the mosaic mini pendant? I would think using the light that mimics your vent hood would probably look okay if the sink isn't too close to the peninsula, assuming the wattage is high enough of course. The only concern I would have is a pendant over me instead of over the sink area; might not give appropriate light. Is the vent working? If not, could you take it out? Or maybe doing two smaller recessed lights on either side of that vent (depending how big it is across your sink area) would work better; then you would have the light properly over the sink? Hope those thoughts are of some help...

Just confirming I understand: 27” from the wall is the first one, and 27” from that is the second one? Will this allow the cabinet door to clear? And then Centered on countertop including the overhang?

You didn’t Indicate the height of your ceiling. With an 8ft ceiling it is a challenge because if you will be restricted to a smaller diameter. I only installed two over my 99” island. I wanted them larger in diameter, but the next size would not accommodate my 8ft ceiling. I did not want to use three, I knew that from the beginning. I wanted the lighting to be uncluttered and open. This is what I did.
