Source for Bolivian Amaryllis species?
Comments (13)What this guy told me that they are the same to germinate as any other amaryllis seeds. He was not specific, but I asked him about species and difficulty of starting and keeping them. And he said that no, they are not harder or more difficult. Right now I believe him because I have no other input from anywhere and I have not tried....See MoreSource for Amaryllis Bulbs/Seeds
Comments (8)hiya all! Thanks for the replies. Santa_fe_greenie I ve tried to email you but I get an error saying mailbox does not exist. Perhaps I m doing something wrong? Here s my email address: Sunita_Fleuriste@yahoo.ca. Re: Temperature of Water in which to float seeds....it has come to my attention that you probably meant 82F and not celcius? lol we use the celcius scale here...82C is almost the boiling point of water (100C)...that s why I thought that they would be killed by it! 82F on the other hand...is about 28C...just a bit higher than room temperature...a heat mat would work fine for this.. lol it s a good thing it was mentioned that it may be F and not C...I was already looking for a way to heat it up to 82C! Also I m wondering: the seeds I bought from ebay which haven t germinated in 2 weeks have now sunk to the bottom of the container...they were floating initially... I ve read that only the non viable ones sink...does this mean that all of these are not viable? I m going to leave them in just in case though. Thanks! s...See MoreMiniature amaryllis source?
Comments (2)I wish the places in Japan would export...the one company has some wonderful plants.....Hippis and otherwise!! Rick, get some H. striatum or H. puniceum (species that will bloom in a 4 inch pot easily from a bulb 1 inch in diameter) or if you like tiny hybrids how about H. 'Mrs. Garfield' as this one will bloom from a bulb the size of a quarter. There are many others, but I am drawing a blank for whatever reason. Ask at Glasshouse Works for small Hippis like these as they have them. I just sent out all my H. striatum seed from this blooming so do not have any to give or would happily provide you with this weed. I'm sure you can find a few small ones :o) Dan...See MoreAre there any good sources that have virus-free Amaryllis?
Comments (12)Expensive imported bulbs also have shown up with virus. Some in the US and some from EU and AUS. I would say a higher percentage of box kits may have virus.... But remember you are paying about $5 so the store pays just over $2. You get what you pay for? The more costly bulbs on line may be grown with more vigilance; however, even those growers who take great care are not immune. Again, no one will put in writing that they guarantee virus free bulbs.
