Since you're still in the "build" mode,you can also consider using CFL's (compact flourescent bulbs) to save energy. If you think the light will be harsh, you can now get CFL's that are dimmable. They are pretty new to the market so you might have to look around for them. You can probably find them more easily online. I forgot to say this to you yesterday as to WHY the diamond pattern of the lights works better over a table. It pulls the lights in closer to the table so that the entire light wash is directed onto the table. And that's another reason I used the large eyeballs, so that the light is directed onto the table. However, cans would do the same thing if you use the diamond placement. I think 2 cans in the walkway will be great. I have a large foyer with 2 cans in it. Talk about LIGHT. Does anyone have an idea of the brand or value of the current one? The PO was a bit nuts, so I don't know if this is something that has value. There is a HUGE RH round pillar candle chandelier in the master bath -- it looks ridiculous but it looks like it will be a bear to get down. RH says it is > 100 lbs. Plus ... how to sell it? Drum light will be a little anti-climactic to your other choice. I like the bigger one better because it matches your other lights better, and no, it's not too large for your table, especially when the table is extended, but even when collapsed it is still 18" shorter than your table's length, so that's fine.

Is your trim brown wood in other spaces? Not sure if one room with painted trim will work with spaces that are nearby. Or is the kitchen the outlier? There has to be a perfect warm white for your kitchen. Have you looked at BM Swiss Coffee? It has a beige (coffee) undertone as opposed to yellow or pink. Off white sounds right for this space with your cabinets, but nothing in the gray family or it will all get kind of dreary. I’m sure a Pro will correct me if I’m mistaken.
