An old house with SEMI-GLOSS walls?!?!?!??! YIKES! (find a new Wife....) !!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST KIDDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Choose a low-sheen like Eggshell. Subtle sheen, very cleanable. Unless you're having a plasterer skim-coat/sand the walls to ice-rink smoothness, DO NOT use S/G paint on walls. Trims...YES. Walls...Never in a million years (in old homes). Resale: S/G would be unheard of for MOST "period" looks. You'd have to ask a person versed in historic interior styles. Not a "big" factor, but it's out there! Faron

Spraying, rolling and brushing can be very close in appearance when done by a professional, using high quality paints. If you are a good spray painter, everything can be sprayed. A house interior that is sprayed should have the same even coverage of paint. Sprayed paint should never be stretched. Keep it at 350-400 sf per gallon. If you like some slight stipple on the walls, then lightly backroll with a 1/4" wool nap roller. I recommend high build primer over the new drywall. It will hide a lot of flaws and it sands well when needed. Paint the trim and install over the painted walls. Your plan sounds like a good one. Michael

I haven’t been to this site in many years...it was the old GW forum then. We are having our entire interior painted. The foyer, great room, dining room and hallways will be Silver Bullet by Behr (Gray). My kitchen has brown granite, backsplash and floor tile. White cabinets. I wanted to paint the dining room a bluish gray above the chair rail and gray below. If I do this, what color would look good in the kitchen and breakfast room with the above mentioned browns in my kitchen? There is a door opening from the kitchen to the dining room so these rooms need to match somewhat. Also, my breakfast room is open to the great room. This little room has to be painted the same color as the kitchen. I’ve never used gray before so any advice is so appreciated! Thanks so much! Dee

I think the problem with your new house is that there are no problems at all...besides the ceiling. It's a very sweet house and you must be over the moon! Depending on where you live and how hot it is, you may not want a ceiling fan in the bedroom (or elsewhere)...but that's a personal preference thing... I see the floors in there are lighter, so you could do almost anything in there....a beautiful chandelier, a paint color you love... I notice that the current drapes (even though they may stay with the house) are a bit underwhelming...full drapes translate to luxury to me....just something to think about.
