I like the footboard one. It also goes nicely with your stand on the left. It wouldn't bother me that it wasn't the exact size of the bed. I like it a lot. Do you have to use both for the bed or can you use just the footboard for the headboard??

I can only mount it against the wall. My 'bed' is a waterbed size mattress on a piece of plywood, which is on two tv cabinets parked back to back. Had to get creative, after ordering the wrong size mattress. ;)

Oh, well, that's cool. I would just do that. My bed is a little odd too. I have a full sized Casper memory foam bed. I didn't like how it felt on just a normal full sized box spring, so I covered the box spring with plywood and now the mattress feels great. I don't think that would work with a conventional bed frame though. I have the box springs on one of those metal frames.

I like the shorter one. Is the mattress a 3/4 size? I'm surprised you can locate bedding for it, as I slept in one that size for years are a child, and recall the difficulties in purchasing the sheets.

With a headboard makes it look finished. Have you considered adding curtains centered with the bed? Then you could use either the head or foot board.

It's awkward having those pieces blocking the window and the shades. Is it possible to place the bed in the room on another wall, not under the window?

If not, I would go with something lower or nothing at all. It being a tight space, I think the room would also look less cluttered by removing the iron stand to the left of the bed in the image with its too short electrical cord coming down.

Is that a Himalayan salt lamp on the top of the shelving on the left? I have one and I love it.

I agree that the shorter of the two looks better because of the window behind it. The slight difference in the size of the headboard and bed isn't a problem. But personally, I wouldn't use either, as the window with the horizontal lines of the blinds and the view through it, along with the ornamental stand on the left, along with everything else is just too "busy" for my tastes. Too many 'focal points', the eye skips all over. One main item of interest would be better, I think. But that's just my uneducated opinion. Go with what you like!

The sheets are custom made by me... LOL, I take king, for the length, and modify the width.

I had the bed for over a year against the side wall, but hated the long walk around it all the time. No way, would I put it against a wall, to hard to make the bed. Then I put it diagonal from the far right corner, but that just didn't feel right at all, and I never slept in it, in that configuration. The window is totally accessible for opening, maybe a bit awkward, but I had the bed similar before. Here is a side view from a few years ago.

I tend to agree with Elmer on this one and would move the bed......maybe not possible. I too would remove the tall shelf and have just one substantial one on one side. You didn't comment on curtains, but something solid behind the headboard would look better to me with the headboard design. Hope you figure something out. I like the comforter and the colors.

I think it's a pretty headboard (and footboard) but neither show well against the blinds. I would do as Dolly suggests and hang draperies over the window blinds so the headboard (or footboard) isn't fighting with the blinds. I'd probably try to find draperies close to the color of the walls, so it would look more like the bed is against the wall.

I like the taller one but not in that space. I was going to suggest a diagonal one but you already went that route.

With a couple of yards of coordinating fabric, some batting and a 2 X 12, you could craft a flat, padded headboard that would fit below the window.

Footboard

Must the bed be against the window? If so, I'd follow PK's advice and make a very low-profile padded headboard that would cover much less of the bottom of the window. You need some plywood, posts, foam or cotton batting, some fabric, and a staple gun. I'd cover back and front with fabric so it looks finished from the outside.

If my bed was under the window like that I wouldn't use a headboard. The window is the focal point and the headboard distracts from it.

I would check out suggestions from Houzz..............search hiding windows behind the bed. They have lots of great pictures for ideas.

I forgot to add that I do like Moni's headboard. .just not in front of the window....Moni any way you could lower the foot board? Although it would mean lowered for life.

I have a foot board used as a head board on a queen size bed in guest room. Bought it at a garage sale, they didn’t like using a foot board. Lucky me!

This probably isn't helpful but I have a similar set up and have no head or footboard. I use a bolster at the head.

I like the curtains in this picture. Ok I know you asked about the headboard but my mind went all over haha. It makes the area seem bigger to me.

Maybe move the stand on the left to a different wall and get a small nightstand or leave empty. I think with the color your painted the room, brightly colored things like the headboard, tables, nightstand, etc would really brighten up the room. :D

I like the shorter footboard.

I did a search for 'iron bed against window'. If you were willing to add curtains, I think it would look more appealing. I've had the dilemma before. I don't like to be next to windows because it is hot or cold outside and I have to be comfortable in bed.

ETA: Curtains were suggested while I was typing. I do like the look.

You NEED the tall headboard so you have something to lean against when watching TV in bed. The taller headboard also makes a statement, gives the bed a little style. It's a pretty headboard, show it off, taller is more viewable. I also like your blinds and wall color.

I like the lower one as well, and really like the color on the walls. And I would leave it where it is if that's where you like it.

I only made it through half of the responses, so I hope this isn’t a duplicate. I like the shorter one was well, BUT it still looks off because of the tables or shelf and table. If you had two tables that were more similar in size flanking the bed I think either one of the headboards would look nice.

Footboard

Another vote for the footboard.

Some small bedrooms with pulled-together looks.....for instance. Look at the headboard size in each pic for your answer.

I just saw this so you already have a lot of ideas. If it were me I would definitely have a headboard so I can sit up and read in bed. Next, I'd have the tall one. Having the short one is a timid choice and exactly how much light would be lost since, when in bed, you have your BACK to the window. I would have curtains on either side and they would be very nicely related to the bedspread so the effect would be a generous one. I would have a low night table -- too much open iron with the tall one there.

And if it were my bed I might, just might, put something solid/transparent behind the headboard so the light shines through in the daytime. I'm thinking of fabric attached in some clever way or even coretex plastic in a color -- I think that's the name. But that is just a thought that I might try and then give up on!

Nicole I really like the bedding in your first photo. Moni I also can see how draperies can make your headboard work nicely.

Well I disagree with most of you. Neither the headboard nor footboard really block the window. I think the headboard is a much better balance for the window and the tall sidepiece. If you want to enhance the window, side sheets would be beautiful and compliment the headboard.

If you're keeping both side tables I'd use the headboard. The footboard is shorter than the table on the left and your eye is drawn to the table instead of your bed.

Personally, I'd change out the table on the left since it's too much like the headboard, mount the headboard, then frame the window with curtain panels on each side of the window. More info than you asked for...... :)

I haven't read all the replies yet but I vote for the foot board. Would it be possible to put solid drapes at the windows instead of the blinds? Seems to me that would be a better background. To me the blinds clash with the headboard. However, it's all about preferences and what you like best. :)
