36" GE electric cooktop (not induction) over 30" KitchenAid oven?
Comments (3)Hire a GC well versed in kitchen remodels. Because it will take cabinet knowledge as well as electrical knowledge to do this correctly. You start with the specs of each model you are interested in to see if their clearances are compatible. It's not that difficult, but it's no place for someone who's a novice to begin. Or, perhaps you are a candidate for a slide in range, not a cooktop and wall oven. There are plenty of 30" slide in ranges that won't pose many logistical problems at all. Then you can add a plug in countertop induction burner for those very few times that a 30" surface doesn't provide enough elements for all of your dishes....See MoreInduction Gas Combination Cooktop
Comments (22)When Bluestar initially released the Platinum range, there were a lot of reports of very uneven heating. The heat was dramatically concentrated in the back. So bad, that not only did food get burned, but the oven racks got damaged by the heat. Shortly after, this problem was addressed by adding a heat shield over the burner. That seems to have drastically reduced the complaints, but on and off you still read on Gardenweb that users complain about having to rotate cookie sheets. On the other hand, with the RNB oven design, the heat source is at the bottom. My own oven is extremely reliable, accurate, and even. I really enjoy baking with the RNB oven (it's the nicest oven I have owned to date) and the longer pre-heat times don't really bother me. I also find it very re-assuring that if I ever experience uneven heating, I can easily address the issue by placing a big cookie sheet or baking stone on the lower shelve. That option isn't really possible for a rear heat source. Maybe, I am just paranoid, and the Platinum oven would work just fine. But given how great the RNB oven works for me, I'd be hesitant to experiment. Pre-heat time isn't a compelling factor for me. For others it might very well be, though. Also, the RNB oven is a damn simple and stupid design. Very easy to fix, if anything ever breaks. The PowrOven is significantly more complicated and a non-traditional design. It is less likely that a random service technician would know how to work on it....See MoreIncredible electric cooktop that's not induction?
Comments (4)It's a regular Ceran cooktop with 5 hobs, including a "12 inch triple heating element" and features like True Simmer and a Melt setting, using "high-frequency pulsation." The ad refers to it as "high performance." My syndicated copy doesn't have a Thermador ad, nycbluedevil. I'm assuming you get the NYC version of the paper? Interesting that ads for national brands would be different. Since it was the food and drink issue, it makes sense that there would be kitchen ads....See MoreBosh or Samsung appliances? induction or regular electric cooktops?
Comments (20)"Toronto Veterinarian, which model did you get and where did you order from?" I got the LG LSE4617ST, which is the same range I had before and enjoyed. I have heard good things about the Cafe, but I just couldn't see a reason for spending the extra $500-$1000, when I'd been happy with the LG before. I ordered it from Tasco, but I cannot recommend them, unfortunately. I'd bought appliances there for my last 2 moves and my last reno, but this time their salesperson out-and-out lied to me on multiple occasions regarding the availability and delivery of my order. He would not take my calls, refused to return the messages I left, and on one occasion I had to drop by in person so he couldn't duck my phone calls again. I took quick delivery of the range and a small chest freezer that I ordered, and then cancelled the rest of my order because of his lies and their slow delivery times, even though I knew Costco had the same fridge and dishwasher in stock, for instance. After the couple of weeks to get them to process my refund (and him lying about it), I'm done. I got my fridge, washer, dryer, and dishwasher from Costco. I know everyone is having delays in stock and shipping, but he took an order for the washer and dryer I wanted, for deliver a month away, even though (I found out later) that the items I wanted were not just out of stock, but their warehouse people didn't know why he'd placed the order because they had no idea when or if any more would be coming in....See More- 6 years ago
