I am doing ceiling mounted track and floor to ceiling sheers and drapes with blackout. This is essentially a custom proposition. The rod is made of standard components, but the whole assembly is custom. However, I am not doing a valance so the top of the drape to the floor measurement has to be perfect (and this is some measurement like (Floor to ceiling measurement) - (hardware height measurement) also taking into account location of the hooks on the drapes. I am also doing double traverse rods with pulleys. I think you have to use traverse rods and carriers to hook the curtains on, with or without pulleys because nothing can go over the rod because the rod is attached to the ceiling. You can get Ripplefold Drapes with ceiling track included from The ShadeStore and they have measuring instructions. But if you are making a valance it may not be necessary to do ceiling mounted drapery hardware, you could do wall mounted hardware and hang the fixed valance only from the ceiling.

There is no room for glass nor do I want it in that bathroom. The entire bathroom is 2’3” wide by 7” long (as a *full* bath). It’s in the office (old “maids room” in our prewar apt) and won’t be used often for showering. So I’m not worried about constant use, I just want it to be functional when necessary as a shower, and pretty otherwise when used as a powder room. That is also why I’m not as interested in spending on custom glass panels. Furthermore it drives me nuts that there are not enough options for brass hardware for glass panels, i have ordered all the samples and none match my finish (see photo). Anyway, I digress...anyway, definitely a shower curtain for this bathroom. :)

This question frequently comes up. It is such a personal decision based on whether or not you need heat/light/privacy control. Do you open your windows? Do you want to see your view? What kind of look do you prefer? I do not use any shades that can be seen during the day. They come down in the bathrooms after dark. I greatly dislike shades that cover the windows 24/7. How do your window treatments look from the outside? I always prefer curtains or shutters because I like that look. Dark blinds or shades create a cave-like feeling. Do you want light/bright interiors?

Definitely don't hang the rod outside the cove. It would look odd. If you were to move the rod off the trim, you could elevate the drapes 4-5 more inches. My main issue is where the drapes currently end, half way to no where. I see that they can't be floor length because of the heating element, so they should end (kiss) the window sill.
