Comments (30)Patty, right you are as usual...always just thought if sour was reduced, so was acidity. In my research of fruit pH, I ran across this site which appears to be a recipe for making a cosmetic product containing kalamonsi (calamondin). http://www.in-cosmetics.com/__novadocuments/2520 The site includes some references containing a summary of lots of uses for calamondins beyond cooking. I have copy/pasted just enough so you can research more on topics you are interested in. The fruit is best used when mature and still green but can also be used when fully ripe (yellow to orange in color). The extremely juicy and highly acid pulp has a particularly distinct, aromatic smell and taste. The fruit juice is an ingredient in numerous local beverages, cakes, sauces, and marmalades. The crushed fruit is used for hair masks, or the juice is applied to the scalp after shampooing. It is also reported to eliminate itching. The juice has been used to clear up acne vulgaris; and it should be noted that the essential oils from kalamansi have shown promising results against Staphylococcus aureus. It is often used in body deodorant applications. Due to its richness in natural citric acid, the juice also has a lightening effect on the skin complexion and has been reported to bleach freckles and treat pigmentation problems. Here is a paragraph from that site with general use: Use & Preparation: The juice of the calamondin can be used like lemon or lime to make refreshing beverages, to flavor fish, to make cakes, marmalades, pies, preserves, sauces, and to use in soups and teas. Thin slices can be used to garnish punch bowls, noodle dishes, meat and fish. In Asia, calamondins are even used in hand washing bowls. The juice can be frozen in containers or in ice cube trays, then storing the frozen cubes in plastic freezer bags. Use a few cubes at a time to make calamondinade. The juice of the calamondin also makes an excellent hair conditioner. Pour 1 liter of boiling water over thinly sliced fruit. Let it steep. Stickney's was a staple in my family's life, all the way through the early 80's until they shut down San Jose's Stickney's on Steven's Creek...I always ordered the hot pork sammies and dipped the fries in that OMG sauce! lol..The Chicken Noodle Soup and mile high strawberry pies were off the charts too..The closest I've come to getting that original taste, is Heinz 57 BBQ sauce with honey...I miss my childhood haunts...Santa's Village & Frontier Village as well! Make many ground beef dishes healthier by using ground turkey instead: ~ taco meat (black beans added?) with all the toppings for tacos, flour and corn tortillas, fresh fruit, cookies and lots limeade and lemonade, iced tea - keep the taco meat filling hot in a crock pot, covered, insulated with newspapers and/or towels ~Italian meat sauce and cooked penne/ziti layered in the crock pot and kept hot, garlic bread and tossed salad, brownies, iced tea ~Pulled chicken or turkey BBQ in the crock pot, buns, slaw, fruit, baked beans, Pig Pickin' Cake, iced tea I'm going to make this for my guys at my local service station soon: ~Supersize Stromboli Sandwiches 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey) 1 lb pork sausage (or turkey sausage) 1 green bell pepper, chopped 1 onion, chopped salt and pepper 1 jar(s) pizza sauce 1 tsp italian seasoning 1/2 tsp dried basil 1 loaf italian bread 1 pkg sliced pepperoni 2 c mozzarella cheese 1.Preheat oven to 350ð. 2.Fry ground beef, sausage, bell pepper, onion, salt and pepper until browned; drain well. 3.Add pizza sauce, Italian seasoning and basil. Stir to coat and simmer 15 to 20 minutes. 4.Split Italian bread in half lengthwise; place on large sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil. Place a layer of pepperoni on bottom half of bread. 5.Add a layer of the meat mixture; top with a layer of grated mozzarella cheese. 6.Place top half of bread on the layers; wrap well in foil and bake 15 minutes. 7.Cut into 6 pieces. Comments (13)I think "Jen's Brighter Blooms" mostly sells grafted plants, with the scion perched on top of the rootstock (which is probably something like flying dragon). I have purchased from them before.
