Where to get hardware to make this appliance garage?
Comments (11)I really, really, really wanted to do this. But it didnt work out for me because of space issues. I was looking at hardware from Sugatsune, I thought one of these two, or one of their sliding systems would be possibilities. I liked the lateral hinges best, at least at initial stages, because they close flush. http://www.sugatsune.com/Architectural_Hardware_News/Rev4.LIN-X_Flyer_0614.pdf http://www.sugatsune.com/products/ProductDetails.cfm?CATID=12&SUBCATID=1&PRODUCTID=MFS%2DW%20Series...See MorePocket/Flipper Door instead of an appliance garage???
Comments (11)threebees - Your set up looks a lot like what I imagined for mine. Thank you so much for posting the pictures - they really help - how deep is your base cabinet? Is your refrigerator a normal 30-33" depth? It looks more like 24". Mine is deep so I'm making the base 30" and the uppers 18" deep. Each door will be 18" wide (yours are only 12) but maybe it will be all proportional?? beaglesdoitbetter - thank you for asking your cabinet maker. I want my beverage/micro area to look a little like threebees and sit right on the counter. Difference is my cabinet would be 18" high, 36" wide and 18" deep. If I can make it work I'd like to do the pocket doors that glide back into the cabinet. I know that they'll still stick out a few inches but I think that may be better for my situation. The left side will be next to the refrig and not in anyone's way but the right side is next to a passageway and people may bump into the open door. BTW - I lived in Pennsylvania many years ago and much of my family is in Florida; now I guess I'm a Jersey girl.. but NO WAY a Jersey shore girl like Snookie - clarygrace - I love your lift up door and the glass on the front of it. Would I still be able to open the cabinet above? I wanted to put the coffee cups and dishes above and it looks like the flip-up door may stop the upper cabinets from opening....See MoreDo you like your appliance garage?
Comments (26)Great pictures that have already been posted! I don't have an applaince garage yet, and have appreciated the feedback in this thread so far. I am planning on adding an appliance garage during the remodel. I prefer the look of solid doors, so I'm gettin the "flipper door" hardware installed on regular cabinet doors instead of using the tambour door. I grew up with a kitchen with a corner appliance garage with the tambour door and we used it all the time. The toaster and can opener lived in the garage and we used each of them a few times a day. The only thing that I didn't like about it was that we always left the toaster out for 10-15 minutes after making toast to make sure that it was cool enough to safely put away. It would have been nice to be able to put it away right after making toast. Maybe if the garage were metal lined?...See MoreHelp critique my kitchen! And add appliance garage?
Comments (8)Get one with a roll-out tray, which must be pulled out to expose the toast slots. I keep a collage of appliance garage pics on my desk top. The top left pic is of GW member huango's kitchen. The bottom row is Ikea: If your DW is in the corner of the peninsula, be aware that when the door is open you won't be able to pull out the trash/recycling bins, and probably won't be able to reach the shelves to the right--if that's where you plan to keep dishes. It's difficult to critique a kitchen and offer alternatives without a measured overhead view. What is beyond the door by the fridge? If that's just garage/mudroom entry I'd want the fridge closer to the dining and living areas, so no one has to walk through the work zones to access it....See MoreRelated Professionals
