Design Dilemma Lighting Kitchens

12” or 14” warehouse pendants over 6ft kitchen island?

We’re remodeling our 1973 ranch style farmhouse and I’m planning two warehouse style pendants above our 70” kitchen island (27” width). Our ceilings are 8 ft and was debating whether I should do 12” or 14” pendants. We will also have an 8” schoolhouse pendant above the sink and a simple wood chandelier above the table in the nook. I would go smaller since the island is only 27” wide IMO even 12” is too big.

I've been messing up my posts lately (and I'm new here too!) so the question really refers to 14' ceiling not size of the kitchen! heimert - no island, so they'll be over walk area. They are white murano glass; 60watts each. 7' seemed awfully high when I first read your post but only because I forgot (!!) that my husband is 6'5"! Thank you. :) Barb - thanks. I think we bit off more than we could chew (at this particular time in our lives) with the renovations so could use the good luck! how much space between the pendants. Ann, in both comments I mentioned a guide up in my first comment. I guess you keep missing it? here it is again,,,with 3 others. these should give you the needed spacing to choose pendants. while you can play around w/the distance between them, the height should be right at 30" or so, with no more than 36" from the countertop. Since you're going smaller, you don't have to do the 30" between. smaller sized pendants can be a tad bit closer 7" is a mini pendant and far too small to use over your island. shoot for 10-14"

Both too big. You already have three styles in one space, and too much going on,

Best would be REPEAT the schoolhouse pendant idea and do two nine inch inch over the island.,,,,,,,, flush over sink

Have simitate question. A 5’ x 10’ island With 11’ ceilings. Considering the Hood pendant from restoration hardware. Advice online suggests 14” based on the dimensions, and I think with a 5’ drop above the island. 14” seems sort of large. I will have three. I plan to go with polished nickel, opal glass and the cage over the glass.
