Consumer Reports not high on Bluestar
Comments (276)I'm curious what the new ones look like- the only photos that seem to pop up look like the old single-wire version that I replaced. Haven't used any of the recent ones I bought yet, but they were $40 for 6 vs $20 each (best I can tell for OEM ones). I also have already put crimp spade connectors on the wires to mate up with the ones I replaced the original with. That should make replacing again not a big deal- except for the state of the threaded holes in the bottom of the burners (TBD). I like the pie-shaped top to the igniter b/c I think it's a little more forgiving for placement than the single wire. Our most used burner has become a little twitchy to light, but I think that's expected with 12 years or so of runtime- need to take it apart and probably just replace the igniter. [edit- in case it doesn't jump out, stove was purchased/installed in 2006]...See MoreOil Rubbed Bronze Steam Shower Hardware - powder coat bad idea?
Comments (0)IÂm trying to choose hardware (hinges, D handle/towel bar combo, brackets or maybe u-channel) for my STEAM shower that is being built, fixtures are Oil Rubbed Bronze. IÂm hearing that some manufacturers make powder coated aluminum for their oil rubbed bronze (Agalite being one of them - IÂm told the powder coating wonÂt hold up over the long run), others anodized bronze, others some other treatment over brass ??? IÂm totally confused. The worst part is the only shade of Oil Rubbed Bronze IÂve seen that reasonably matches the Oil Rubbed Bronze hardware in my bathroom (shower fixtures, door knob, towel hangers, lamps, faucets, etc.) are the powder coated surfaces IÂve seen. Anything other than powder coated IÂve seen essentially looks black itÂs such a very dark bronze that itÂs hard to tell from black and definitely wonÂt match anything I have (IÂve seen CR LaurenceÂs oil rubbed bronze and whatever hardware Holcam uses for their anodized bronze both of which essentially look black). So can someone illuminate me if using powder coated hinges, brackets (or u-channel) and D handle/towel bar combos is a BAD idea for a steam shower? Or does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes non-powder coated hinges/brackets/u-channel/handles in an Oil Rubbed Bronze that doesnÂt look black? Thanks in advance!...See Moreexperience with glass/metal deck railings???
Comments (6)I agree with Barney, CRL came to mind when I first read the title to your post. Problem is, they aren't set up to deal direct. I have a reseller permit, and I think that is the only way I was able to get an account. You might find the CR Laurence website useful for getting ideas. There are many types of hardware systems to attach glass. Here is a link that might be useful: CRL online catalog...See MoreTrace elements for blooming and antifungal agents against diseases
Comments (21)http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0038071706005190 Trace and nutrient elements in manure, dung and compost samples in Austria Although the high amounts of K and P were beneficial, there were some high concentrations of Na in biogas residues and pig manures. Intense additions of Cu, Zn, and Se are reflected in high loads in the respective excrements, as Austria is a low Se area. Composts and sewage sludges were higher in Al and lithophilic trace elements than were the excrements ... Factor analysis traced phosphates as the main source of Cd. Cr in processed matrices was significantly higher, and abrasion from tools should be considered in future investigations" *** From Straw: antifungal trace elements, listed in the order of most potent: Silver, Mercury, Copper Cu, Cadmium Cd, Chromium Cr, Nickel, Lead, Cobalt, Zinc Zn, Iron, and lastly calcium. Selenium is also a strong anti-fungal agent. My personal experience for the past 6 years: horse manure and chicken manure together works better than applying lime before acidic rain. Have really bad experience testing Encap compost on pots, due to the quick lime. Aluminum is toxic to plants (Milorganite sewage sludge was bad for both my lawn and roses), and I'm glad that chicken manure is high in zinc, copper, and boron. http://www.ontariosoilcrop.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/V2Gen1.pdf "Zinc and Copper are included in monograstric (swine and poultry) diets at much higher levels than minimum requirement for "normal" performance since when fed at higher levels they promote growth. Horse manure samples in the study were particularly high in chromium, nickel, aluminum and iron. The source of nickel and chromium is not clear, but race harness bits used in the industry are often nickel or chrome plated and may have contributed to the concentration of these two metals. " I also checked for trace elements in oyster shell lime: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/18465435_Trace_Metals_in_Oyster_Shells " Measurements using atomic absorption spectrometry have established the prescence of Pb, Hg, Cd, Zn, Cu, and Cr in shells of the oyster Crassostrea virginica in amounts considerably higher than their concentration in sea water." BOS LIME is made from Ocean Shell, (Bluff Oyster Shell / Kina Shell). Trace elements and micro minerals such as Potassium Oxide, Magnesium Oxide, Colbalt, Zinc Oxide ." http://www.boslime.co.nz/pages/products_001.html...See Moreuscpsycho
