What hardware did they use that was aluminum? I am not aware of any CRL shower hardware that is available in aluminum? Brushed and Polished Chrome, some Brushed and or Polished Stainless, but not aluminum.

Psycho you have problem after problem after problem with all your projects what is going on over there..

US/CRL has all kind of Aluminum parts for showers you'd need to be way more specific.

All 3 of the glass companys I USE source parts from them.Regardless it should have been specified and signed off on in your glass estimate(what your paying for and what your getting).

Tundra - Back to my original question. Since you frequently use aluminum hardware I assume I'm safe and there is nothing to worry about? Specifically I'm talking about glass clamps for a frameless shower. Below is an example of what I have. Is this going to get nasty on me?

Those are not aluminum. They are solid brass with a Polished Chrome finish applied.

I would be inclined to agree w/workman likely plated brass. I think you have A classic case of glass competitor envy and perhaps a dab of overthinking it. They do make polished aluminum however.

The original glass installer told me they are aluminum. So he's straight up lying? The second guy is the one who got my radar up and freaked me out about them possibly rusting.

Are these better than if they had been aluminum? Sorry if that is a dumb question.

And more importantly, are these ever going to rust or corrode or tarnish or anything? I honestly don't care at all what they are made out of. All I care about is that they will always look good.

If you saw the rest of the job he did on this shower you would question everything. Train wreck.

I find with My glass crew often times the installer has not Ordered and specified the parts and strangely enough the sales rep has better parts knowledge. To be sure we cant touch and feel them here on the web. Do you think CRL would sell rust prone parts to every shower glass installer across N America?

When I say "installer," I'm referring to the owner of the company and not his crew that did the actual installation. I could have been more clear. The owner of the company told me they are aluminum and I don't think his company is so big that he has sales reps or anyone ordering parts for him. As far as I can tell it's just him and a few installers. He should know what he's talking about but it's my contractor's sub, so if he doesn't know what he's talking about it is not a big surprise.

If this hardware is CRL plated brass does that rust?

Plated brass does not rust. Its in every shower Ive ever built along with all kinds of aluminum. Low grade Screws and fasteners however tend to rust and that can make folks think their clips are rusting..

Now I don't know if I should trust the second glass contractor who told me this hardware could rust. He got me all worked up for nothing.

To give you guys an idea about why I don't trust the original glass contractor. First thing that got me nervous is how fast he measured for the glass in my showers (he did two). He never checked to see if everything was plumb, just basically took one measurement in each dimension and that was it. Looked haphazard to me but he's supposed to know what he's doing so I didn't say anything.

Delivery day comes and his guys break one of the panes of glass. They also break one of my tiles during the installation so the tile has to be replaced. When they come back with the replacement pane of glass they break another tile. This time it's in an inconspicuous place so I decide to live with it because I'm afraid if I bring them back a third time time they'll break another piece of tile in a more visible location and the cycle will never end.

It's a steam shower with a transom. For some reason he can't seem to figure out how to get the transom right, after many months and several visits to put it in I still don't have it.

I told the glass sub multiple times I want crystal clear silicone. He ignores me and brings a cloudy silicone and, I kid you not, silicones the entire shower in under five minutes. The silicone looks like a child did it. No tooling, no shaping, no tape. I have a very wavy and uneven silicone and he tells me that silicone is messy to work with so this is the absolute best it can be. So I proceed to send him a few Youtube instructional videos to show him it can be done cleanly. No joke.

Also, because he didn't check for plumb surfaces there is a vertical edge along my shower bench that is not plumb so the gap between the bench and the glass grows as you go up the bench. It looks terrible. He tells me that they can't cut glass at an angle so there is no way to match the slope of the bench. Total BS. Right?

He also never bothered to ask me what kind of handle I want for my door so I have the smallest, most basic one. And he didn't ask me if I wanted a towel bar. I've never done any of this so I had no idea this stuff had to be specified up front.

Anyway, you get the picture. Everything that could be done wrong was done wrong. The installation, the glass itself, the silicone... And it is like this with every one of my contractor's subs. You wouldn't believe some of the mistakes that were made. Just this week I discovered that the hot and cold water lines are crossed somewhere in the walls which are all closed now. How the hell does that happen??? What's the over/under on the number of walls will they will open to fix this?

Experiences like this give you PTSD. I'm sorry for venting but you asked ;-) And now you understand why I wouldn't be surprised if I had motel grade shower hardware that was made out of recycled tin foil and will rust upon first use.

If those are truly CRL Glass Clamps, then they ARE solid brass. I just checked the website on 8 different clamps and they are all solid brass. I see no aluminum anywhere in shower door hardware on their website. I use there site almost daily.
