Starting Oceanfront Remodel of 1960's home
Comments (5)I have do it filed under design dilemma as well, apparently you can only choose 3 tags and I have endless categories I need advice on... Just to clarify: Houzz took over Gardenweb, which has separate forums for things like appliances, kitchens, remodeling, etc. Most of the folks here are still GW people who don't go into the Houzz side at all, and there are experts who donate their time in each specific forum, so you would really be better off going to the appropriate forums for your reposts instead of relying on Houzz tags. The forum list is here: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums We don't see Houzz tags here, although using some of them will also make posts appear on the GW side. It's an awful mishmash right now. ETA When reposting about the house itself, be sure to include what part of the country you're in: oceanfront in FL has some different issues than oceanfront in New England, for example....See MoreReplacement windows for 1960s home
Comments (9)Thanks for the feedback. The home is "Colonial-like" in design. Looking to replace a dozen windows, Double Hung. The trim is in good shape so we could do inserts or full frame replacement. Having blinds nestle in the frame would be preferred but not an absolute. We're open to using any product although we are looking for low/no maintenance, especially for the upstairs windows. I've only looked at a Pella vinyl so far in person and it looked too industrial for my tastes. With our climate and west-facing (if that matters) what wood/clad product would be good for the four main floor windows? Still trying to understand if vinyl, composite, aluminum, or fiberglass is the best choice. If wood windows added character to the living room and dining room on the main floor, I wouldn't mind a little painting but really looking to minimize the maintenance aspect. And perhaps this is where the Infinity comes in? Look of wood with no maintenance. Or asked another way, what windows need maintenance so I can consider ruling them out? Thank you....See More1960s Kit House in the Woods- New Windows: Wood or Vinyl?
Comments (21)I did give that a bit of thought, lovemrmewey when I decided to give up the first floor bedroom to add more living space in the kitchen area for today. If need be, I can reconfigure another area of the first floor for a small bedroom if one is required in the future. For now...I am holding a vision that I will be healthy and able to manage stairs to an upstairs bedroom. Both floors will now have bathing/showering options. In the past, that was only on the first floor....See More1960s stone wall. Sigh. What to do?
Comments (28)I read all comments & none were about the mantel. Is it possible to add a much bigger wooden mantel? You said you were getting rid of the gold around fireplace - is it possible to change FP to a new one that is also larger? I do like the wall & I don’t mind the planters. I might’ve changed them when doing the floor but if you don’t want to add plants to them I think capping them is best - maybe with something to match the new mantle?...See Morekaye1951
