The only caveat: make sure the white cabinets go with Whirlpool’s white appliances. For example, a warm white paint might not co-ordinate nicely, so verify the color before you order your cabinets.

My preference is stainless, BUT get white if that's what you like. Appliance white can be stark, so, as latifolia mentioned, do consider your cabinet white with the appliance white since the two can look off.

Just another thought...it might help if your white appliances have some stainless trim/handles. Maybe tie it all together with brushed nickel hardware for the cabs.

I also do not like stainless but I also don't care for white - only because I'm more of a beige/warm color kind of person and white never goes with my other choices. I wouldn't care for white with white cabinets. Maybe that works in some cases but when I've seen it, it looks like an unpleasant mismatch. If I had cabinets that were some color I might like white.

When we remodeled our kitchen we did cabinet panel on the fridge and dishwasher and ovens and cooktop were stainless. When we moved, the place had black appliances which looked good with the rest of the stuff in the kitchen. They needed to be replaced and I got black again except the range is technically stainless with quite a bit of black. I just couldn't find a range I wanted that wasn't stainless.

I think stainless is more neutral and works in most kitchens. We had white appliances in a previous home, and I spent more time keeping them clean than the stainless we have now.

I have had white appliances all my life....raised two boys while having white cabinets. I found them so easy to clean. I always read and hear that stainless is had to keep clean especially around children.

I also do not like stainless. Much prefer the look of white, and I found white easier to keep looking nice. I always battled smudges and fingerprints on the ss. I know there are now smudge resistant stainless products, but I didn't have those.

If the foregoing is not enough reassurance, then be assured that you are not the only one who does not like stainless finishes and that plenty of folks like their appliances in white.

Some internet searches will turn up postings and articles about preferences for white and or other colors of appliances over stainless steel.

It is simply personal preference.

One thing to note -- as 3katz4me mentions -- is that a lot of stainless refrigerators and ranges actually might be better characterized as black appliances with stainless front fascia. Another thing I've observed in my town is that some of the margin of preference here seems attributable to folks mistakenly thinking that other folks so overwhelming prefer stainless finishes that selecting anything else will somehow ruin a home's resale value.

Where I live (in the rural west), stainless is merely a somewhat more popular personal preference. The margin of popularity is not huge. Hereabouts, a lot us wind up with stainless appliances because we can tolerate it when we find a deal. Case in point for me: my personal preference runs to old-fashioned appliance white but, when I needed to buy a new fridge several years ago, I wound up with a stainless Kitchenaid because Lowe's had the stainless models on an overstock sale for $200 less than the white version I otherwise would have purchased. Then, like 3katz4me, I wound up with a stainless stove simply because the models I wanted were not available in colors.

I say go with your personal preferences.

My parents bought a 1972 house in the early 1980s. They initially had an avocado (1970s) (Roper) cooktop and wall oven, and (KA) dishwasher, with a 1990s white (KA) refrigerator and 1970s (KM) stainless range hood brought along from the old house. The dishwasher was eventually replaced with a white 2000s GE, oven with a 2000s white WP. The cooktop with a brushed chrome (or maybe stainless?) WP. The refrigerator & range hood remain the same. No one has died from tainted food or run screaming from the kitchen in horror at any of the mis-matched applianced at any point along the way, LOL. The buyer would have to deal with what's there if they ever sold the house. Seems highly unlikely anyone would renege because of appliances.

Stainless looks industrial and sterile, rather than home-like, to me. I admit I've now gotten used to seeing stainless kitchens although only a few of my friends seem to have had the resources to go towards that trend just yet. I mean, assuming that's what they wanted to do. My point is, I'm now beginning to ignore seeing the stainless when I visit... I'd much prefer white or black on my own druthers, but I am no longer irritated by seeing stainless. .

I did black in my own build, as my kitchen faces south, and I didn't want parts of my appliances to yellow prematurely. I also get enough light to be able to support black appliances.

(Otherwise... I'd still be doing white, or "bisque".)

We have white appliances in two homes. I do not like the commercial/industrial look of stainless....not even sinks. I am always amazed when someone says that they " are upgrading their appliances to stainless"!!!

Someone said it here correctly...appliance color is a personal choice. Many people prefer stainless or white or black or black stainless or whatever else is out there....maybe ice white. You should have what looks best to you in your own home.

sandeeaitken, go with white if that's what YOU like. Your question about regretting white is hard to know for sure. I can tell you there was a time when I swore I'd never change from white to stainless. Hard to imagine now.

Just please...no avocado or harvest gold. :-( LOL...that's one personal choice I've never understood from the get-go.
