Sounds like a bubble cloner to me :) If you want a true aeroponic propagator you`ll need the correct pressure and heads to create an atomised mist and a cycle timer for control. Its pretty easy to do if you have sufficient mains water pressure as you can use it in place of a pump. Just add a solenoid valve and a cycle timer..thats about it. A propagator doesnt need any nutrient supply and as its run-to-waste, it also ensures fresh clean water for every pulse. There isnt any water level in aeroponics, the plants are suspended in an empty chamber :) The only hurdle with this design is the mains water temperature.. its usually pretty cold. Easily fixed with a coil of pipe in a igloo cooler filled with water and an aquarium heater which acts as a heat exchanger for the water supply line to the solenoid valve. It takes mine at least 90 minutes for the water to travel through the coil so it has plenty of time to warm up to 70-75F. My 60 site propagator runs with a one second pulse every 120 seconds and uses about 250ml of water per hour, 6L a day which is collected and used on the garden. The bubble cloner is a lot easier to make but technically its not aeroponic :)

I remember my Mother taking me along for visits to a neighbor or friend of hers and I was always coached to say 'no, thank you' if I was offered, oh a coca cola or something equally wonderful (which we never had, rot yer teeth and all that). Only, if they offered twice would she relent and let me say "yes, please". My sister swears it's a Minnesota Methodist thing. Not sure on that. My Father and Mother would take all 5 of us to a nice restaurant when we were young so we could dress up and learn to act like ladies and gentlemen... my brothers were expected to pull out the chairs and hold the doors, napkins in the lap and the whole bit. "Civilizing the savages" is what my dear old Dad called it. And no one was ever, ever allowed to leave the dinner table before everyone was done eating their dinner. You could get kicked away from the table with NO dinner for messing around (my poor sister) but no leaving until all were done. I have to say when I first met my DH, I was mortified when he wolfed his food and got up and left me at the table. Raised by wolves, that one.

there is a plant propogation book i have wherein the author describes his own mist system. that author has a large black coil of hose in the roof of his greenhouse so that water can be heated before reaching the mist nozzles. that's at least one vote for using warm water and keeping the cuttings reasonably warm as they root. just thought i would toss that in! lol. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by: mosaic z8 LA (My Page) on Sun, May 11, 03 at 11:59 With such a setup you could probably root roses under mist all winter here in Louisiana. (heh), even though the reason I bought it at the time was to keep a new patch of zoysia sod watered until it rooted in. My batteries did last all season last year, but it was only opening that valve 4x a day for 3 weeks, and then 1x every 4 days for a couple of months. And even though I had a pressure regulator on there, I kept having a problem with the heads blowing off! (Their drippers work perfectly by the way so it's nothing against the company) I ordered foggers from Misty Mate this year and they put out a super fine fog. Perfect for propagation. They are a litte more expensive than the ones from Dripworks but worth it. And if you ask they will ship the misting heads for $1.50. I went to HD and bought a 10-24 tap and drill set (3.00) and drilled holes in my 1/2" cvpvc and the heads just screwed right in! I bought a Melnor timer at HD for $39 and it has 1 minute spray options so I've got it set for 1 minute every 10 minutes. Can't remember the model number but it's not the one on the HD website. I hope to finish my new propagation box soon. I built one on a stand this year so I can move it around easily. Wouldn't you know, HD has plastic sheeting made just for greenhouses that I used! It's not the real thick heavy stuff either. It's only 4mil and is crystal clear see-thru! Hopefully I'll be finished this week!

Yes it is a fairly standard practice. It doesn't usually lead to anything, except for those sitting on the fence, as mentioned, or cases like my neighbours. They were recent empty nesters, but not yet planning to downsize. But they called back the realtor, 'just to see what it was all about.' Not having kept up with the current market, our neighbours (who have a larger property) were shocked that the realtor's comps indicated their house could sell for at least a half million more than they expected. Since they hadn't planned to move for several years, they said they'd only be willing to list their house for 30 days to see if his assumptions were accurate. On the eighth day their house was listed, he brought them an offer that was $615,000 more than what they had assumed their house was worth. They sold, and moved to condo a few years earlier than planned, but are really happy with their decision. We are also empty nesters, planning to move within a few years. But having kept up with the real estate market, there would be no big 'surprises' for us, so the same scenario would just have me tossing the card.
