what size area rug for 18'x17' family room?
Comments (4)Our Gentleman's Parlor is 18 by 18 with a walkway along one length. We have a nine by eleven area rug. I can't imagine having anything smaller. I agree with Patty to draw up a scale floor plan with the furniture placement before you buy a rug if you really want to buy a rug now. Personally from experience of building three homes I'd wait until you were in the home. You won't really have a feel for what works until you are in the home....See MoreWhat size rug for our family/TV room?
Comments (8)Again, agree. As I look at your photos, I have to wonder about rug fit. Your LR looks narrow because the hearth is in the room. So to make that dimension fit a store-bought rug, you might not get the length to cover the room more fully. It might be a good idea to put your room dimensions to paper, and then see how a rug would fit. An alternative is to buy a piece of carpet and have it bound. There is so much to choose from these days, and if you luck into a remnant you like, it is very economical. What room is next to the LR? You can also lay an area rug there. Two complementary rugs would be fine. And about tripping -- the rugs should be sturdy and substantial (with padding)....See MoreNeed to know what size Area rug for family room
Comments (2)At least 2 feet wider than the sofa, maybe more. If a reversible chaise it is probably on legs so should go entirely on the rug. If it sits flat to to the floor, the rug should slip under the front 1/3 of the bench part and be entirely under the chaise section. Is there other seating that should be on the rug: chairs, coffee table, sofa table......See MoreArea rug size for family room--pics attached
Comments (1)I like the 9x12 but I would never layer rugs...See MoreKaren
