Leveling a bracket in dyrwall

I bought my wide a very nice art item called a Meural. It weighs over 20 pounds and comes with a 3" wide hanging bracket that fits snugly into a slot on the rear of the Meural. There's no free play involved. So I carefully measured spots for the bracket's two screws, but when I actually drilled the holes, the results are no longer level. The bracket is affixed into the drywall by way of two large composite gripping devices that hold the screws. No framing involved. One side of the bracket should be raised by about 1/8". I'm under the impression that if I remove the bracket, fill the hole with drywall mud and try again, it will not hold. Am I wrong? It would be nice to be wrong! Thaks in advance for any and all advice.

Sounds like a French Cleat Picture Hanger. If that is the case, and with only 1/8 of an inch to adjust, maybe you could lay a couple toothpicks horizontally on one end of the cleat that is attached to the wall.

Yea, I wouldn't use the same hole. Drywall has a bit more integrity than a patching compound. This is less important if you are screwing into stud though.

When you *level the deck*, do you remove the guide wheels and put it in the absolute lowest position (lever all the way down with the flap removed) ? Can't really speak to the product you envision. if it were me, I would try to find some vegetation in the vine form that would propagate and be hardy. I believe ambiance truly suffers when a "structure" is installed. imo

The pegs are likely worn . You could apply some epoxy to the mating surface to allow a tighter fit .

Graywings123: I had never heard the term "French Cleat," but I looked it up, and that's exactly what it is. The composite grips hold it off from the wall slightly, so rather than toothpicks, I used a piece of cardboard that I bent at 90 degrees. That way the part of the cardboard that went between the cleat and the wall was immobile, and the bend covered the end of the cleat just enough to level the Meural out. The toothpicks probably wouldn't have worked because of the gap, and because the Meural can be hung horizontally or vertically and gets changed every so often. But your suggestion was what made me change my entire approach to the problem and I sincerely want to thank you for your help.
