Can you help me identify these plants/flowers please?
Comments (18)I would love to grow that Maple but alas, no room. :o( The ground cover amongst your Violets is Wandering Jew...a weed. Can cause skin allergies on dogs. It is hard to get rid of because anything left will grow back. Vigilance is needed. The garage wall has Ficus pumila, creeping fig. It is pretty and useful but if not kept under strict control, can turn into a monster....you might want to Google information about it before the trouble begins. The small plant with the shiny leaves is Coprosma. Considered a weed in Melbourne. An untidy bush that is hard to keep to a decent shape and reseeds everywhere. I would pull it out now while it's small. Sorry to be so negative, just being honest. Dee....See Morecan anyone identify this plant/flower?? Please.
Comments (8)Poinsettias are sprayed with growth retardants to keep them small. When I first moved to FL, I worked at PanAmerian Plants (Now Ball-PanAm)and helped grow poinsettias. One year, someone mixed the growth retardant wrong and burned the whole crop. The flowers on that one look like a Christmas Rose poinsettia. I've seen them hanging over the top of an 8 foot wall in Plant City. I've never been able to get a store-bought one to survive. It's hard, because it can take them years to grow out of the growth retardant. They're hard to root. You have to "seal" the bottoms with a lighter or by touching it to a hot stovetop (covered with aluminum foil so as not to get the sap on the burner) to stop the sap from flowing out, and they need a lot of humidity. I got one to root once by making a "greenhouse" with a 1-gallon pickle jar over the pot....See MoreCan anyone help me identify this weed please?
Comments (7)The leaves and wood of elder have a somewhat unpleasant smell, which is easy to check for. And, as the link info says - the stems are hollow. Fairly easy to remove as it is not deep-rooting, though the roots do spread widely. Better to remove it entirely as it will resprout from the stump. If there are other elders nearby you are guaranteed more because the birds will bring seeds to your garden. Makes an 'interesting' jam from the black berries teamed with apples. Sort of a strong toffee flavour. (I don't think it was my jam-making...;-) )...See MoreCan anyone please identify this for me, please? Weed or not?
Comments (7)It will have flowers at some point. It doesn't look like a garden plant to me but if you want an id flowers will help. Judging by the stage of growth it won't be long to wait....See Moreterilyn
