Wanted to add one more thing. At Mattress Firm, they don't have pillows or headrests on the mattresses. They have a rack with pillows and you use a head protector on the pillow. He gave me what must have been some type of foam pillow and I took it bed to bed. I was surprised how comfortable that pillow was. For as stressed as I was to in the store to begin with, it was actually very relaxing trying the mattresses there.

The pillow is the other half of the equation. When you try a mattress, have the sales rep take a picture of your body. That will give you a good idea if spinal alignment is being achieved. Of course, 6 months from now, the poly may sink and change the feeling to uncomfortable.

We're now sleeping on a memory foam mattress (off-brand) and it's AMAZING. Neither of us wakes up stiff/sore anymore and we sleep like rocks. We paid less than $300 for ours and it's held up perfectly for four years (and counting).

Have you looked at Lull mattresses? My sis bought one recently and absolutely loves it. Her back has not bothered her since buying it. Has a 10 year warranty and a 90 days trial period with free pick up/return if you don't like it. The reviews are very good. Just another suggestion. Price depends on which on you get.

Oh, and I did lay on it when I was there and it was VERY comfortable.

The mattress at your link is a Beautyrest pillowtop. Everything I've read about mattresses says to avoid pillowtops. They tend to pancake at the top, and you can't flip them. I was also advised by many to avoid the "S" brands, of which Simmons Beautyrest is one--although Beautyrest was said to be somewhat better than the other S's.

I'm rather intrigued by the 12,000+ Amazon reviews of Tuft & Needle.

Lull does not divulge mattress contents. I would avoid any mattress that isn't transparent about the contents.

I know several people who invested in a VERY expensive memory foam mattress and hated it - WAY TOO HOT!

Personally, I like an all-cotton, or cotton/horsehair/wool mattress. They breath. Foam and synthetics do not - they are hot and stay hot.

I bought my previous mattress which had those divets or tuft things. Deep ones! I found that they killed my arthritis in my hips. My hip would fall into one and caused it to be twisted. I had to buy a cuddlebed topper to fill in those depressions. So if you never had those, be aware of them! I never noticed it during the first trial.

Wool mattresses are very, very nice and comfortable, not to mention naturally fire resistant, no nasty flame retardants required. You always pay more for natural mattresses.

Truth about Tuft And Needle

Brushworks, the title of your link gave me the impression I was going to read bad things about Tuft & Needle. But in fact the review was pretty good.

I know a couple of families who love their Casper mattresses. But I wouldn't consider one myself because I'm not a fan of memory foam. Mattress buying, like just about everything else--including diets--is such an individual decision. I just hope my Lemoyne Sleeper mattress continues to hold up, because I'm not looking forward to going through the hunt again.

Does it matter if a company honors a free return warranty but indulges in questionable marketing claims?

I have nothing invested in Tuft & Needle, Brushworks. No money, no emotion. And no motivation to argue its merits (or lack thereof).

Lucid is made in China.

That alone disqualifies it as a worthwhile choice.

LOL - it's worthwhile for US because we're sleeping better than we ever have. I bet the computer you're using was made in China too... ;)

It's made in Malaysia. Probably worse than China.

However, I'm not sleeping on it for 8 hours a night, and it can't harm my spine or joints due to poor quality foam.

Paying $300 for a Lucid, which includes manufacturing, shipping, tariffs and sales commissions would bring the mattress down to a true value of about $50.

And? As I said - we have zero aches/pains, we no longer go to the chiropractor twice a month for adjustments, we sleep soundly, and have no complaints at all about our mattress. If it only cost (or was worth) $25 and I got these results, I'd still be happy with it. :)

Dismissing a product out-of-hand with no first-hand experience is presumptuous. It's a great mattress and has held up longer than our previous (American-made, innerspring) mattress.
