Mattress/ cushion for Daybed with rounded edges
Comments (1)I ordered a custom wrapped foam mattress for an outdoor swinging bed. It's about 6" and you can order different thickness, width, etc Linked story below, sources I ordered from are at the bottom - I shopped around and both were best prices online, also less than purchasing locally. It arrived folded in a box, but fluffed out within 24 hours. It is very comfortable. While I used outdoor/DryFast foam, you won't have to so it would cost less. I had the cover made by a different company. Here is a link that might be useful: Swinging Porch Beds...See MoreRound 2: My 2nd KD came in at $166- my budget was $100.
Comments (100)Talia -- I'm so glad you decided against the firm! I didn't want to offer an opinion before as I have no experience with a kitchen reno in your budget. Mine was a relatively modest $20k - no structural work but I replaced every single thing. The one thing we do have in common though is that I didn't have time to manage my project either -- but I didn't have a choice, having a "more than full time" job/career. Yet when I fantasized about having a GC, I realized, "who am I kidding? I'm gonna be all over this no matter who is in charge! It's my home!" I did luck out though, finding the best licensed, insured, experienced carpenter, contractor -- George -- I could have found through asking around a LOT. Amazing, really. As the "GC" I hired the electrician, plumber and floor tile guy, (all referrals) but not without consulting George, my carpenter first who had a ton of experience and knowledge of other trades who checked their costs first for me, helped me tweak and negotiate, etc. George helped me with my lighting plan, a rather extensive one, for me and then he came here with me and "supervised" to make sure it was done right and according to plan. When I couldn't get out of a work meeting and get home for my granite install, George jumped in and then fielded a major problem with the island -- cut wrong size -- fabricator error. He called the fab and quickly resolved the problem and a new island top was put in the following week. And George? He removed and demo'd old cabs, installed the new ones and moldings and trim, cleared all trash and did cleanup, made me a second pantry with new door and shelves, put in new sink and faucet, new range and micro, new dishwasher and fridge, moved a misplaced chandelier (my fault) and patched/painted ceiling hole, kicked out the sloppy painter and found me a new one, patched kitchen floor after I decided to move a radiator a month after floor had been done, added new saddles... and I'm sure I missed a few things... which came to about $2,500. I gave him an additional $500.00 which he finally did take... not just for his extra supervision of others (that he throughly enjoyed doing and did so well with a very gentle touch) and jumping over here when I needed him and answering my 1,000+ questions about everything, but for caring about this job as if it were his own home. (I also gave him a like-new circular saw that I used only once some months ago and have been too scared to use again.) I also gave him 2 referrals that have turned into good jobs for him. Really, I feel like I owe him so much more! I think there are some real GEMS out there at reasonable cost that just need to be found. Of course with your budget and plans, you need more than a lone super-dedicated carpenter, but I'm hoping you'll find a firm or KD or GC or all three that will be your "George!" Note to Lovestocook -- I found 2 great Mauviel pieces at Home Goods! More great gems at......See MoreMattress Poll- reviews of recent mattress purchases PT 2
Comments (10)Linelle, have you considered getting a cushy topper? There are experts who recommend getting a mattress on the firmer side and then getting a topper than can be rotated and replaced as needed with a lot less effort and expense. We went mattress shopping before Christmas and actually purchased a Beautrest Next Generattion Hybrid on a really good sale. We went back and rechecked it -- still liked it, but I was a little nervous after reading that Beautyrest is rated very well in the forst three years but below average after three years. That's the experience we are having with our current Beautyrest -- loved it for a good 3 years but between 3-4 years the impressions were enough to cause back pain and sleeping issues. They are borderline on being enough to get a warranty replacement, but we're not sure we ant to go through that again. The Next Generation hybrids have a layer of mini coils in the top. Seems like that should help with less impression sag. While mulling that over, I really wanted to try an all latex like my son's (no longer sold at the store where we bought his). I found a mattress manufacturer about 45 min away and got DH to go with me. They had 3 latex mattresses and only one hybrid was even a possibility. Tried a memory foam that we both liked better than any Tempurpedic. We would us looking at and deciding on one made very much like the Beautyrest Next Gen but the mail coils are smaller, so there are a lot more of them. There is a firmer support but still the softness for comfort. More coils should hold up longer too. My brother and SIL tried the Beautyrest at Macy's. SIL loved it but DB said it was too soft. They tried the one at Texas Mattress Makers and they both liked it. My brother was laying on it when I stood up from the other side. Several minutes later he got up and didn't even realize I had moved. That should help SIL and me both with our active sleeping spouses. We are supposed to get ours Saturday. Looking forward to that. Hope we love it as much as we expect to. They are customizing the box height and can adjust the top if we need it. If this works out well, I may never buy another major brand mattress. There is something to be said about buying from someone who makes the mattress, really knows and can show you what goes into it and can tell you why a mattress is or is not a good fit for you. I found out BD and SIL have been sleeping on an old mattress covered with a pile of blankets. That says something about how much fun mattress shopping is, doesn't it? I can't wait until they get theirs. That should make a HUGE difference....See MoreMattress shopping...adjustable base..??
Comments (8)I bought it on Amazon. It was in this tiny box. I can’t believe how small it was in there. I bought a Casper since it has a guarantee if I don’t like it I can return it free. My son took it out of the box and it fit my bed frame. Unfortunately he put it upside down. I also didn’t follow the 72 hour rule and I gassed myself and had the worst migraine around 2am. Very bad. (It let’s off gasses for 3 days and they’re not kidding) My son came over in the morning and saw it was upside down. I also put a box fan blowing on high for 1 day. It says to sit outside or in a garage for 3 days to let all the gas out of it and to allow it to fully take on air and expand but it was 10 degrees outside so I didn’t follow the rules. All my fault. However by night 3 I was sleeping better than ever. It’s not hot or cold. Not even soft or firm. It’s so hard to explain since it fits my body exactly each time. I can’t attest to the longevity but I hope it has 10 good years at least!...See MoreUser
