jenny, I agree with LilBit, pot is too large so when repotting change that too. I think I would use unglazed pot, it will dry up faster. I would also mound-up the soil so it sits higher. Just use easy draining mix. Is it coir in your pot? wantonamara gave you excellent advice, so consider that. Mine grow very well, multiply, flower all the time. But the conditions are just little more favourable (closer to Germany than Malaysia). Remember, these may be little more difficult for you to grow, but there is so many other plants you can keep easier in your area that are much more challenging for us in colder zones...so don't give up, it could work with some effort. (Not to lecture you so pls. don't get upset, but you brought it from Germany? I know, it is very tempting, but plant material is not supposed to be taken from other countries to prevent spread of possible diseases etc...Where was it growing there - in ground or in container?) While I was watering my succulent I realized that the base of the leaf is brown and there is a black speck on it. Is this a pest or nothing to worry about I've also noticed more of these light brown areas and a hole down here Is there anything wrong with it and if so can I treat it? Should I isolate it from the others

@alisa they look like they match the color of the markings! When I get back to Guam I'll send some photos. My weather is very similar to Singapore's (humid and hot all year round) so my current watering rituals are to water once a week, slowly until water comes of the bottom of the pot. I don't have a specific ratio of what my soil mix is, but it's made up of a little potting soil, pebbles, and soil from my yard (which has more little pebbles). Throughout the day (7:30am-6pm), they're outside on my west-facing window sill and catch the late afternoon sun. I've had majority of them for 2 weeks and so far they're all still alive. Loving the learning process and I'm so happy to discover this super cool community!!!

I’ve killed more succulents than I’d like to admit. Hundreds of dollars rotted or burnt to a crisp. Nonetheless, I am happy to report that I had maybe one loss this past year? I’ve learned to ignore the overall rules and adapt to what works for my succulents in my environment. I started out with succulents by ordering about $200 worth of sempervivums “hens and chicks”. For starters, they advertised echeverias on their pictures but I didn’t know the difference at the time. All I knew is that I loved the look and that nothing would grow on the south side of my house because of the intense heat. My semps came with instructions hardy to zone 9, plant in full sun. I lovingly did so along with two trays of sedum and they did very well for maybe two months until we started getting heat waves in May. It only took one day for them to burn to the point where they almost fell apart. And that was my first massacre. I finally learned to trust my gut after visiting my aunt who waters her succulents every two days, keeps them in part shade, doesn’t protect them from frost or heat and I realized she broke every single rule yet had the biggest most gorgeous succulents I had ever seen. So with time, I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t and I feel more confident in buying the more expensive succulents because mostly everything stays alive now. The one piece of advice that has always worked for me and I think it works for almost anyone is if you have any doubts on whether to water or not, then don’t water. It’s easier to kill from overwatering than underwatering. but anyway, sorry for the rambling. I kinda just wanted to say don’t give up and don’t be afraid to fail a few times.
