seeds from plant that had powdery mildew

Every year my verbena bonariensis gets powdery mildew in the fall. I harvested I harvested some seeds from it and I'm starting the seeds now. The powdery mildew was also on the dried flower heads that the seeds were in. Since the seeds are so tiny I just crumbled the dry plant material on top of my seed starting soil and pressed it in. Is there anything I can spray in the flat to kill the mold spores that won't harm the seed? Otherwise I suspect the seedlings will get powdery mildew after they germinate.
