Vent-A-Hood Ductless ARS range hood Update
Comments (198)With conventional hood systems, the expectation is that the larger particles within the entire grease particle spectrum are collected by the baffles, and the smaller particles are ejected into the outside air, with only modest condensation or impact collection by the duct. To deal with the entire particle spectrum with a filter pack is a challenge, and probably unaffordable in cost for most residential users. If the Amazon rating is based on comparison to outside venting, the result above might be reasonable. As a commercial example, the Wells WVU-31CT filter system is described below: "Filtration Completely self-contained filtration process reduces emissions below that allowed in NFPA 96 and ANSI UL710B using the EPA 202 test method and includes stainless steel grease baffle filter with grease cup, fiberglass pre-filters, high-efficiency (Particulate Air) filter/ carbon-charcoal filter pack. All filters are easily removable with out tools. Air flow sensors continually monitor air flow optimizing performance and grease removal while an interlock system will not allow cooking appliances to function if filters are missing, clogged or in the event of a fire." About $18k. Electric surfaces only....See MoreLet's talk about Lumens - Kitchen Lighting Design
Comments (12)I went to a local lighting store (where I had previously bought fixtures) and got free help with the design. My kitchen is 9.5 x 13 approx., unlike yours I have cabs down both long sides ( one of those sides is shortened by the doorway to the basement steps) so my light is confined to a smaller footprint. I have 5 LED recess kits, 3 on one side with the main counter and sink, 2 on the basement entry side next to the frig and pantry; each 800 lumens I believe (maybe 900) = 3600-4000 lumens, and even dimmed to 75-80%, I have more than enough light for the counters with upper cabs without turning on the UCLs. I really feel that I didn't need all the undercabinet lights -- I rarely turn them on. I am a bit older and really appreciate good lighting -- I go into the kitchen when I need to see small print well. So it seems to me that for your space around 10,000-12,000 lumens would be a ballpark. I have no idea how the use of track lighting for some of that will effect the dispersal and effectiveness of the light, though....See MoreViking hood with recirculating kit?
Comments (6)It may cost you a bit more in the beginning but you will never regret that outdoor vent. When I added a kitchen to my parents old farmhouse the range and hood were located on the north wall. Living in a very cold climate we actually try to keep air access points on the northern side of our house to a minimum to maximize our electrical and mainly heat/AC chances of leakage. Drill a hole on the north and you up your stakes here. For those reasons I chose not to vent the hood and recirculated. Biggest mistake ever made in that kitchen. (And this was a very expensive and highly recommended hood) Doesn't matter how much you recirculated or how long you leave that fan run to clean the air it does not do the job. I clean and replace filters monthly. It makes virtually no difference. I decided this summer that if I could not locate a contractor I was going to head outside with my drill and reciprocating saw and change the venting myself. Outside vent is my very sincere recommendation. You can't begin imagine what a recirculating installation can be like until you have lived with it for ten years....See MoreHide a Recirculating/Ductless Kitchen Exhaust Fan
Comments (10)Not that it is the right thing to do but you may be able to make something like this work: https://www.houzz.com/products/zline-617-30-stainless-steel-under-cabinet-range-hood-30-prvw-vr~78292841?m_refid=PLA_HZ_78292841 But you should be installing and insert that mounts under the cabinet and goes up inside.https://www.houzz.com/products/cabinet-insert-range-hood-with-550-cfm-stainless-steel-30-prvw-vr~53073673...See Morelisadlu16
