Thought I would never buy seedlings
Comments (18)Thanks, everyone. I am happy you like what I call my sitting garden. It is one of my favorite places to be. I have to admit, when I first joined this forum and saw everyone's clump pictures, I so wished that I had clumps to post, but it does take a few years to really get a good clump. My problem was I was always giving away starts of mine and didn't realize that I was stunting the height and spread of my daylilies. Now they are getting nice and tall and thick. I still give a few away but am a little more selective. Debra, I get almost all of my daylilies from Lakeside Daylilies in Lynnville, Indiana just a few miles from my home. I spent 2-1/2 hours there yesterday just looking and deciding. It was so relaxing and I love talking to all the people as I meander about the gardens. They will be having open gardens again next week, July 2,3,& 4 (9a-3p). They have a seedling bed and a double fan is $5. In the past few years, I shied away from the seedling bed because I thought I just had to have "named" daylilies and already had several NOIDs. But this year I thought what the heck, these seedlings are just as pretty. Julia, those are tiger lilies getting ready to open any day now. I have wire fencing in front of the tiger lilies so they don't lay over and the lattice creates a nice separation between the driveway and my garden. The other side of the lattice is kind of a mess though, I need to work on it. Vickie...See MoreWhere would you recommend to buy seeds online?
Comments (10)Have a look at the site below by clicking the link http://www.kokopelli-seeds.com/ It is a French website, but it is in English, they have thousands of varieties of vegetable seeds, that are all totaly organic and are all endangered species, and the majority are very unusual. Because after reading an article, apparently the 10 big seed companies in the world, basicaly want you to buy their seeds and thats it, even the seeds they will be selling, will be sterile, that means no fresh seed for next year from your plants, hence you are forced to buy again, not a nice situation. Try the site out, most packets of seeds are only a couple of Euro`s to buy, and you get a lot, and you are doing the world a favour, and to keep the process going, they would like you to send some of next years seeds to them, which they will distribute to 3rd world countries....See MoreWhere is the best place to buy clivia plants? Comments (6)Go to a clivia show. There's one in Pennsylvania I think and one in Los Angeles (I've been to) once a year during blooming season - the LA show had plants & seeds for sale at great prices (I got 1 gal plants for $5 ea, a pink, a keeled peach and a red). I also found a yellow at Lowes on sale for $9, nice big plant, a little raggedy, but big enough to bloom next season....See MoreThings that need using up banana custard edition
Comments (7)Sorry, Carol! And thanks for pointing it out. I've edited it. I did use them--three mini-pie dishes--for the leftovers. The main difference is they were a bit more on the sweets side because they're shallow. Fewer, deeper ramekins or proper custard cups might have been better for the custard, though as is they were also really good! BTW, the crust is whole wheat (red) with spices....See Moremaddielee
