New home! Need some exterior advice.
Comments (11)You may get some ideas for a style from this site linked below. I have contracted with them to replace the 6 ft. cedar fencing that I had installed in 1996 enclosing my 60' x 80' 'puppy pen'. http://burnsfencing.com/residential/decorative-fence-maine/ They're in Maine, so likely can't help you, but I think the styles they show under decorative fencing are pretty universal. I chose this one below, which is called Princeton. What I liked is that I will save money, as you can have galvanized posts to support the panels, rather than the cedar that I have now. They are easier to install as they can just pound them rather than digging very deep holes for the cedar ones, and they tell me that they'll last a lot longer than the cedar ones. They won't show at all from the outside, as you see in the example below....See MoreNew home construction exterior design advice
Comments (37)"I like every single thing about this plan." That opinion may be based upon lack of understanding of what the drawings show. I avoid: Designs that do not relate to the site. Closets where hanging clothes turn corners. Windowless walk-in closets. Kitchens with overly large work triangle. Large expanses of exterior wall without windows. Walk-in closets that will be difficult to walk into. Hallways less than four feet wide. Stairs less than 3'-6" wide. Freestanding tubs that do not have sufficient space to clean around. Powder room off main entry A powder room where you can sit in and carry on a conversation with someone in the living room and have visual contact with. Powder room window that opens to a front entry porch. Master bathrooms with little counter space. Bathtub/shower with a window. Closets with doors that insufficiently provide full access to the closet's content. Dimension that go to the center line of walls. to name a few....See MoreBuying new house but don’t love the exterior- advice?
Comments (87)That is good news! Hope you got a better deal because paint alone for that house is going to be $$$$ as I'm sure you know, to say nothing of the labor, scaffolding, caulking, etc., etc. Huge job. I figure it will take a crew at least 2 weeks and possibly longer to do that job, depending on how many people they put on the job. I would ask for a "plan" because if they separate it into "sections" and they have more than one painter, it will more likely ensure an even application/look at the end. Each painter has his/her own "touch" on amount of paint applied and overlapping to ensure coverage, etc. Good luck. Make sure you get test panels made so you can move them around in the various light conditions during morning, afternoon and evening. Also you a flat finish with very good quality paint. It will last a lot longer....See MoreAdvice on exterior update of our new home
Comments (5)I actually like the warmer wood tones. adds a bit of warmth and depth. you could always stain them a darker color if you want. Taupe? why taupe? This?? this is taupe siding. Sorry, I think that's a horrible choice! taupe will meld into that roof color and just look blah. especially if you remove the stone. What would you like to see? How about some contrast? I'd cover the stone w/romabio, and do a composite wood siding over on the far left. then I'd paint the siding a crisp white, do black trim. the cedar posts, it will look great. (but you could also do other shades too. ) what about a dark blue gray siding? as for the stone, since you want to remove them, why not get a small container of the Romabio and wash them to see what you think? (and if you really hate it, it washes off w/in 72 hours. Comes in a bunch of colors. If you get the Masonry Romabio, you can have it tinted any color you like) lime wash is the Classico:...See Moresuezbell
