Comments (40)MonaBlair...you ain't no thread killer girl! Thank you for your warm compliment on my color skills. You may wish we had an edit feature on this board once you see what I did! ;-) Teeda, I love your front door on the other thread. So pretty. As for the snow....well, I am a bit in shock still. It is gorgeous and I even went down the giant hill out back....once. (You must know that hill!) No pics yet. Sorry. Batteries died and I need to put in more books before I take pics. They are soooo red! I am hoping books will cover them some and temper it all. I did buy a red pillow at Target today. (DH may try to suffocate me with it when he sees I've brought one more pillow into the house!)...See MorePlayroom: bookcase wall and built-in bunk beds same color?
Comments (7)Have you seen this post on Built-in Bunk beds? There are actually 4 on this wall, but only 2 can be seen. The area is painted SW Warm Stone. ' If you Google the image, you'll find other built-in bunk beds with a similar paint finish. I love the idea of a bunk room, and wish we had left the space over the garage accessible through the house so we could add them for our grandchildren. Comments (8)Thanks for the input! I think I'm afraid to commit to permanent placement of things which is why I'm looking at individual bookcases instead of builtins. :) Paint has certainly been considered--especially when I was thinking I could make IKEA work--but aside from yellow walls and a white ceiling, there's no paint to match. I'd rather stick to a wood finish so that in the future I can shuffle the bookcases around...split up the set and stick them in the kids' bedrooms, whatever. I do like those green bookcases though! But I'm looking for something simpler and midcentury-inspired and I'm not sure that would work as well with paint as a traditionally detailed bookcase. I don't think the cherry would darken the room much (maybe all the junk/books inside would, though). I'm looking at unstained cherry which darkens into a medium light orange tone. This is in a low ranch house with 8 ft ceilings and I don't think bookcases can be tall enough to be oppressive in there. But it sounds like dark wood is out!...See MoreShould the buffet match the bookcases or the dining room table?
Comments (11)Hi Patricia, thank you for taking the time to comment! If you saw the space, it would be easier for you to understand why we need the unit to be white and go all the way from the living room to the dining room. I'll post a picture, but right now our huge book collection is in boxes in the space where the bookcases will be, and we aren't bringing in the new table (and installing our chandelier-west elm zigzag capiz)until the bookcases are installed. So the picture won't be 100% representative, but you'll see that the floors are a very dark wood, our table is dark wood, and our couch is dark brown leather...I really don't want the huge bookcase unit to be dark as well. Although the unit will be white, we have many large books that are shades of brown, navy and maroon, so the bright white will be warmed by the books inside the bookcase. In terms of the tablecloth, my home is blessed with many children who do homework, eat snacks, and color at the dining room table. Leaving it uncovered, would mean certain death to the table. The major question is about the buffet, server piece. The person making our bookcases said he could make a buffet to match the bookcases, but I'm not sure whether it will look good to have a white buffet with a dark wood table even though the bookcases will be a part of ther dining room? The buffet would go under the mirror in the dining area....See MoreM Mag
