It will be too crowded of you put it in the empty corner; there isn't room for the washer door to open fully if there is a sink there.

Can the washer and dryer slide toward the door and a sink go on the wall next to the washer? That would be convenient for water supply and for putting things that have been soaking right into the wash. Look for a laundry sink with a cabinet base. You can put an open shelf above the sink (or a pullout drying rack if you hang things to dry) and cupboards above the washer and dryer all the way to the corner. Across the washer and the dryer and all the way to the corner you could put a counter top for folding, with storage beneath for laundry baskets.

Do you need any specific laundry functionality such as a folding area, area to hang clothes/ironing, broom/vacuum storage, drying rack, multiple laundry baskets etc.? Here’s a photo that might inspire you.

Make sure you have extra room for the machines to fit and be easy to put in and pull out. It looks so nice and tidy to have them surrounded by a cabinet, but if you want to clean out the duct to the vent, or clean behind them, or paint, or repair, or you get new machines that are slightly larger, it is a royal pain if they are hard to move or tightly surrounded by cabinets.

Agree with enjoythejourney and the others. The first thing to figure out is what functions you want the room to perform. You have a long laundry room that can do more than just laundry functions. Do you want to add storage? Christmas storage? Craft area? Additional pantry? Other storage?

You have room for the laundry tub as described by lindsey and room for laundry baskets. Once you decide what you want from the room, then designing the cabinetry to make those items work becomes easier.

Just a note, I do think it's important to have the sink next to the washer if at all possible. That's the direction of travel for laundry: sink to soak (if applicable), washer, dryer, counter to fold.

I agree lindsey, I was using insp pics that didn't show that configuration but showed a variety of cabinets on one wall.

I figured that Denita :-) they are beautiful pictures too. Laundry room pics are my favourite, I think because laundry is my favourite household task!

I'm never sure whether OPs will understand though, so I sometimes feel compelled to be more explicit!! And since it would create a bit more work with shifting everything over I kind of felt like I needed to "sell" it more lol.

I would really like the idea of moving the washer/dryer as close to the door as possible with the sink at the corner with the window. (or move them under the window and have the sink counter space along the longer wall)

But with the current set up of the water/gas lines and the ducts- seems difficult to do. anybody have insight on how hard/easy it is to move the lines so that I can have the appliances either under the window or closer to the door? Ill attach pictures incase I'm not making sense.

As much as I love how the housed appliances look, Im thinking of not doing it just because if I change anything (add pedestal, get new appliances) or want to move them it would be more difficult.

Honestly, I would leave the washer and dryer where they are or just add the sink where the washer is currently. My reasoning is that front load washers really need the door to be left ajar to dry out between washes and if you move them closer to your laundry room door, I predict more than a few banged shins or having to close it every time you walk into the room.

I feel you though...I do have a sink, but my laundry room is also too narrow for me to do much in the way of improvement. You can still do a lot to make it more functional though. Maybe a fold down ironing board (battles with my ironing board are a real thorn in my side...)

The cost of moving them is largely dependent on how accessible the feed lines are. If it’s open, under your laundry room, you can likely move them wherever you want. If not, an option might be to open the drywall behind them and extending the lines to the right. You need a contractor to tell you what’s possible. I will say though that I am thrilled with the functionality I gained by renovating and it was worth every penny to me.

Regarding leaving the door open, I’ve started using Moisture Grabbers. I prop the door open with one, for a day after each load, then pop it in the machine and let the door close loosely. It works quite well.
