Comments (9)how many formats have you drawn up without the peninsula? One note as well, there is no patio door....is it true the only passages to other rooms are down from fridge and next to range...[nothing going outside??].As per rosie, once you eliminate peninsula, I would look at range placed between two windows on long wall, a rearrangement of sink and fridge, but you'd gain the several feet on inside wall.... down from fridge.....place a small sink there and a slightly smaller cleanup sink further up on long wall, for example. The reason I might do it without peninsula is the fact of the closed space....especially banquette end,,,,,and I would want a lot of options with banquette table/bench and chairs around it.....the peninsula seating doesn't provide you with anything the banquette can't accomplish with it's variety and number of seating positions....It seems it will be a destination and I would want to maximize that....See MoreI need feedback on my new kitchen layout!
Comments (16)KA mixer in an upper cabinet? I don't know about you, but mine is much too heavy to be an upper cabinet! You really shouldn't put heavy items in an upper cabinet -- if they slip out of your hands, it can be dangerous if they fall on you. I would do one of the following: Leave it on the counter (maybe get a cover for it when it's not in use to "hide" it and keep dust out) Store it inside an appliance garage Store it on a pantry shelf about waist-high. You could also have one 18" base cabinet with a mixer lift in it. It'll take up most of the cabinet, but if you don't like it on the counter and don't want it in a pantry or similar, then that may be your best bet. . The sink-DW-trash location has nothing to do with whether you rinse your dishes, it has to do with being in the way of someone trying to prep. If you're prepping on top of a DW, no one else can get to the DW to load/unload or add something/take something out. It's also not pleasant prepping over a running DW (heat and steam). Unless....are you referring to scraping and then loading the DW? If so, then I understand what you're saying with regards to DW & sink (no need for the sink). The trash, though, is best located in the Prep Zone since most trash/recyclables are generated during prepping and cooking. Ideally, it should be in the Prep Zone but near the Cooking & Cleanup Zones. If you put the DW on the non-range side and the trash pullout next to the sink b/w the range and sink, then you've accomplished the ideal!...See MoreI Need Kitchen Layout Feedback!
Comments (12)I agree with AFritzler on 1 and 2. Even though you already own the 30" base cabinets, since you're adding cabinets and painting anyway, I'd get the additional cabinet with drawers. Drawers are so much handier than rollout shelves and definitely handier than regular cabinets! Find another use for the other cabinet - your basement, garage, etc. Consider using it in the blind corner by the peninsula, but facing toward the DR, for storing linens or platters, then using a tall skinny cabinet (for tray storage) to the right of the drawers. Check the specs for your fridge and make sure the hinges sit proud of the pantry cabinets so you can open the left side door fully. (It looks like it will be fine, but good to double check.) If the hardware on the rightmost pantry door is next to the fridge, make sure the fridge door won't swing into it (probably won't, but good to check.)...See Morethinkdesignlive
