Many inflos are appearing!
Comments (18)Hello Everyone.. Hi Dave! My Royal Hawaiian is definately distintive in the way it looks and grows...Yes, mine is thin, but has a very nubby appearance on the limbs...i havea few cuttings of the Royal Hawaiian and they are all the same. I have not been fortunate to have a inflo appear on my RH. But i hope to have one soon....The best way to describe the limbs is to think that they all have the mumps..lol...others varieties are different in texture..but the RH has its own "skin" How is your DIvine? I have inflos on my Divine, Thornton Lemon, California Sunset and a Noid ..im still looking for signs of others appearing...i may have one starting on my "Lavender" which is a very special trees to me!!! I just love the Lavender... Hi ANdrew...The experiment that im doing on the same cuttings one with the egg and the other without is still in progress...no signs of rooting on either...but in the same grouping of cuttings, my Aztec Gold, Noid Pink and a few Celadines are rooting... Ill keep you updated as to what happens with the "egg method"...Im glad it works for you...i have heard others talking about it so i wanted to give it a try... Jen, lol..."Penang Peach" I want mine to have an inflo so badly i cant stand it!!! LOL...He says six? What? lol Please send some pics our way Dave of this beauty!!! I am in the process of moving all of my trees today and getting them ready for the summer..most of the big boys are going against the back fence...and tied to the post.. The other smaller trees will be placed on the top deck and others will be placed by the pool.. This year i am going to put rebar in the containers to make sure they dont have any issues with wind!!! Thanks for that idea Dave...i believe it was you that suggested it last year.. How is little Ka..? I bet she is growing up fast!!! Enjoy the summer everyone... Please post pics... Want to see everyones trees... Ill post pics when i get them in place.. Take care, Laura in VB...See MoreTrees Are All Outside And I have One Inflo....
Comments (17)Tamala star !!!" Thank you!! I think putting the cuttings In The greenhouse is a great idea. Do you have them on heat mats? I took my heat mats that I had inside and placed them inside the greenhouse in a container and placed the cuttings inside. It will really help speed up the rooting process. The best of luck to you !! Again, thank you!!! Hi Jason, Lol.. You are good at counting!!! I thought I was going to be really good and keep it around 3-4... Ok.. Confession.. I'm looking for and have found a Butterfly Gold. It's truly amazing and I'm tickled to find one. I am having a Corona Surprise being grafted for me at Florida Colors and should have it in about four weeks.. The other three that I ordered from FC are Aurelia. Musk Rainbow and Raspberry Sundae. All are grafted from Tex. they are all potted up and ready for the season. I'll post a pic of the three from FC. Kukait has some beauties. But I think Im Not going to buy any this year... I'm happy with Edelstein , Fantasia and C C. I did remember the bidding on the Scarlet Night and I was sitting on the edge of my seat.. Wow. I agree, I think the next week. BBB had them listed And I could have saved a few dollars too.. Oh well... The list is quite impressive that you have already. Lol.. Your little " birdie". Is good at helping pick some winners.. Listen to those song birds!!! lol!!! Thirty more this season.. My heart is beating fast because I'm envious and excited as well as thinking what my hubby would say. I don't think I could hide all of those in one season... LMAO!! Good job. They are great varieties!!! Sounds. Like you are quite happy with the makeup of your mix and I'm happy for you!!!! I know you like to experiment, so let jus know how it goes.. I am interested , so keep me posted!! I'm not afraid to prune my trees and it did take a year before I felt comfortable to see where they needed to be trimmed to keep some balance. I'm not an expert, but I'll look at your trees and see what I would do. It's just hard to cut because I want to see inflos and I know that it will take time for the new cut branch to produce new little ones and then more time for inflos. I always remember BIll talking about " selective pruning". And he did this to ensure seeing Inflos at least on some of the branches. He would select only a few and then the following year, he would prune the other ones. That would give them a chance .... I'll check it out though... ;-) Thanks for the Scarlet NIght leaf intro.. It's beautiful... I really love that one and the other that was offered that was more satin red. The name escapes me right now. I did bid on it, but I stopped when my heart started to hurt... LOL! Sounds. Like open house will be a great time and I also have heard that a lot of trees will be already taken before the show. But I haven't seen a nursery like JJs, so I'm thrilled for the experience as well as all of the friends. That will be there. Lots of wonderful people! Tex and Kay will be at the SCPS meeting and it will be fun to see them again. Peg and I are really excited and are starting to feel like kids again looking forward to Christmas morning. We just don't get the chance to see these nurseries like Uplands, JJjs etc. we are happy campers!!! Hope to see ou there!! Ohhhhh. I almost forgot to tell you.. I think I see with my inspector glasses an inflo on my Makaha Sunn!! Talk about being stoked!!! Duvachelle has one on her too!!! Double stoked... :-) Thanks for the pics.. They all look great. Take care, Laura...See MorePenang Peach puts on a show Plus two 1st blooms
Comments (19)Hi K, Yes... You did take all of the "cold beer". Lol!!! Just send the keys please? We haven' t started the boat since... ;-). If you send beer for the slugs, you better buy a brewery!!! Rox... I have heard about putting out beer for the slugs, but I'm wondering how much I would have to put out? I think I could buy some really nice rooted cutting instead of spending on PBR. Lol! I have them lining my deck above and below, so it would have to be in bowls or beer trough 's everywhere. I once outlined the containers with Epsom salt and it worked well until it rained and it finally started to wash away. Those little critters are some nasty little buggers. I wil pick them off as I am telling them what I think of them, just so the neighbors will hear.. ( only kidding..) and then I will toss them or... Lets just say, they won't be returning. ;-) So, if K wants to donate the beer, we can have a party as we line the decks with beer. Take the boat out for " sea trials.." Catch dinner and have a good time!! Maybe even have chocolate covered strawberries for dessert! I'll even make them myself!!! Gotta love chocolate!! ;-) Love those pics, K.. Hopefully I Will have some pics to share soon. I'm also in the process of rooting a cutting of a Kapalua and I think it is deciding it wants to stick around here in VB. MY tree is doing great thanks to my great friends... :). This cutting from what I understand ( Kapalua) is very difficult to root, so I am really working hard to make this one work. It means so much to me!!! Merci Beaucoup!!! Thanks for the great pics, K... Glad to hear the girls and family are doing well!! Send info if you are ready to help with the keg roll on the deck!! Lol!!! Take care, Laura This post was edited by loveplants2 on Sat, Jun 22, 13 at 11:04...See MoreSeedlings 1st bloom
Comments (7)Thanks everybody, I'm glad you like this one. Jandey, 7 Oaks is a local nursery that we discovered I think in 2002. They had acquired a LOT of seeds from Jim Little and had seedlings in 1 gal to 3 gal pots. They have a 50% sale twice a year and we were buying seedlings for next to nothing. We still have a few of their seedlings that have yet to bloom. I have no idea of the lineage of this seedling, but you're right, she looks (so far) a lot like VCR. Brighty, this one was hit hard by a freeze in 2007 and had to be cut way down. We got her in 2002, but I have no way of knowing how old she was at that time. Most of our seedlings have taken 3 to 6 years to bloom, but some take much longer. Thanks Bill. I was very disappointed when I sniffed her and couldn't detect a scent. But she's under the canopy of a really big camphor tree and only gets afternoon sun (when we're lucky enough to have sun shine). I'm surprised the colors are as intense as they are considering the shade she's in and the weather we're having. I won't get too excited one way or the other for a couple years, but I think she has real potential. Thanks all, Dewaine...See MoreMaria Elena (Caribbean - USDA Zone 13a)
