Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Small living room ideas?!

I just moved into a new apartment which is 300 sq. feet smaller than my previous. I need a separate living/tv and work space. I’m looking to invest in new furniture but not sure where to start. Any ideas for arrangement (current furniture is feeling too cramped), furniture options, or decor would be helpful!! Thanks!

One of my favorite solutions for fitting workspace and living space in a small room is to wall mount the TV opposite the sofa and place the desk below the TV. Some examples:

Placing the desk directly behind the sofa is another option:

The TV cables can be moved. The cost is negligible. Perhaps you can pay for it and have it deducted from your rent. Or maybe the owner will share the cost. I'd like you to consider this arrangement. It highlights the fireplace as the rightful focal point, provides a "foyer" and a conversational grouping. Play around with it and see what you think.

I can't help but notice the following: The square tiles and a border at the entrance door are kind of odd. Why not just replace them with the same flooring just like that of the bigger part of the room? If the middle of the art works are at most's eye level and they take up about 2/3 of the width of the sofa, then they should be fine. I would like to see the window with a floor to ceiling cream sheer curtain to brighten up the room. A palm plant at the very corner. A wooden brown solid round table with height higher than the arm rest of the sofas. A table lamp with round cover. Cream fabric seat covers for both sofas.

R Tews Constuction & Design makes a good point and it may be something to consider - the idea of putting tv up high with little ones afoot. The wall across from the sofa has windows and the other is a half way from the kitchen.

I would move the cabinet on the kitchen wall to the wall where you have the lamp.

That would balance the other cabinet on the right side. You could try pulling your sofa back away from the tv and put the desk behind it, so you face the room when working. You will have to play around with items and see which works best.

In your last pic I see three pieces of casegoods that are all the same height. That's not helping here, so I would eliminate the two pieces in the niche area by the kitchen. Spend the money to move TV connections and put TV where your desk is with all of the black cubby shelves gathered together there and styled with 1/3 books, 1/3 large decor and 1/3 open space. Turn the sofa around where it is so it faces the TV and the entry to the room. Flip the rug around, and get rid of the coffee table and the other low table. Use two "C" tables instead to clear floor space and have room for the laptop or to eat on. Put the desk on the wall where the floor lamp is now. Put the bookcase back in the niche by the kitchen. Add a pair of skinny stools at the pass through bar. Your skinny little table could hold a plant near the window in the kitchen niche.Here are some C tables.
