If it is shared by the the attic no additional enclosure is required. You will have no view of the dark attic.

Actually we sprayed the area around the windows black because with direct sunlight you could tell it was raw attic. Plus in my area electric candles in all the windows are popular year round.

What do the drawings show?

You can always omit the windows in the gables in the house and garage. They are just decorative and have little value...

Thanks! We were concerned that when the sun shines on the window it would be noticeable that it was just unfinished attic. Wondered about painting the inner area black. The dark roller blind is a good idea. The plans don't really show anything except the exterior view. The plan called for stick frame in the attic so perhaps that would have made a difference? Because of local building codes we had to use trusses.

I have see windows in attic spaces frosted, have a large piece of plywood painted black about a foot behind the window, use of curtains, and nothing done. My biggest concerns would be to not increase heat build-up in the attic space; ventilation is important.

To make the windows appear dark from the exterior, take an appropriately sized piece of gypsum board, paint the surface black and fasten it to the inside window trim.

Hang blinds in the window, or whatever other window treatment you will use in the rest of the house. Vacuum once a year.

Why would you pay for gables that don’t create useable space?

Get an obscure window film like "blue chip" from a box store. It will let light in and keep it looking like a window without a view inside. (We have it on a bathroom window) I would not put anything black on or around the window, it will make it look like you are missing glass.

I wouldn't attach anything to the inside trim nor would I use a blind as you might get a build-up of condensation.

I honestly can’t imagine seeing anything in that windows unless it was lit from inside at night

We have 2 shed dormers, one active the other open to the attic. At no time during the day or night is the attic viewable. We also have low e-glass which adds to the reflection.

PCC - Yes I would recommend illuminating my last option at night.
