What to do with windows with a view?? Please help:)
Comments (54)Hello all, it has been more than 2 years since I posted this, where does the time go?? I just wanted to follow up on this thread. I ended up putting Hunter Douglas ultraglide top down/bottom up blackout shades in the kitchen. We get such strong blinding sun that we really needed the blackout shades in that area. I have been happy with the decision. Although the blinds don't provide any visual interest, I am happy with the clean look when they are all the way up. I've realized that the visual interest is really the view. Hunter Douglas also has great customer service. We've had a few issues that were addressed in a very timely manner. As far as the great room, we lived without anything on the windows for all this time. I am glad I waited to see what would work best. The only reason why I am putting something on the windows now is because we want to protect our furniture from the strong morning sun. We will close the blinds at night and open them during the day after the morning sun. I will be ordering Hunter Douglas ultraglide top down/bottom up semi-opaque shades. I was told that the semi-opaque will block out 95% of the UV rays that cause sun damage to furniture. I am interested to see how these shades will affect our heating and cooling bills. There is so much glass in the great room that it gets so hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Best wishes to all!...See MoreWhat do you think? I need some help with window treatments!! Please!
Comments (18)I wouldn't go with a plain fabric but something such as what Jodie White posted on the right - something with some texture or as kelleg69 suggested, a geometric pattern that is a tone on tone. You also really need to think long and hard about how you feel about colour. If you do like colour you could try a yellow/grey pattern or an aqua/grey or cherry red/grey (ok that might be a little out there). Do you have some ideas as to what colours you will have as an accent in towels, mats, etc....See MorePlease help!!! At a loss what to do with bay window exterior trim
Comments (3)I would put black between. To my eye, it would get busy with the white in between and if it were a single unit bay, it would be black in between as a general rule....See MoreHelp, what do we do to make the front more appealing
Comments (10)I like the topiary trees and the palms... but I don't think them there like that is doing your lovely porch any favors. The palms for for sure overwhelming the spaces. What do you want out of your porch? Simple curb appeal? Somewhere to sit outside and enjoy the porch? Want more than just porch and would like some patio? Or just want nice garden? Landscaped, flowers, veggies or herbs perhaps? I like how celerygirls mockup has the porch enclosed- screened or glass, an enclosed porch can be nice to desirable depending on where you live and otherwise want to use that space....See Morejmm1837
