I am having the exact problem that you are. I check these trees every couple of days and still nothing. I planted several trees in January and February. My mulberry, apple, 4 cherry trees, Santa Rosa plum and fig trees have all leafed out. However, my Red Baron peach, Sherwood Jujube, Choctaw pecan, Spice Zee nectaplum, multi-grafted pluot and my multi-grafted low chill pear tree are still dormant. Although, my pear tree did leaf out but after those high, dry winds that we had, they dried up and have not put forth new leaves. And, the same thing happened to my 2 apricot trees (that were planted last year). They leafed out and I lost the leaves to the wind. Everything is still green on the trunks except, I think that my Spice Zee is fading and the trunk is getting less green and pliable. I wish they would have gotten leaves before the 100 degree weather got here.

Here in the Dallas Area, camellias need shade starting at 11am-12pm. Further up north, you can probably exceed that. If the plant gets too much sun, those leaves in direct contact with the sun will start to brown out. I use drip irrigation and have placed a dripper right close to the main stem of the camellias. Then as they grow, I add more tubing around the plant in order to water roots further away. My tubes have other drippers, about every 12" in both directions. They are set to run for 1 hour (equates 1 gallon of water) most of the year, except now, when I run them for 1.5 hours because our daily temps are in the 100-110s through September.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I haven't added mulch yet....I literally just put them in the ground friday so I need to do that. I get freaked out not watering them because everyone who has seen them say water, water, water! And yes I am trying to get them to be a hedge but not so much to block anything visually......I just need a barrier between the pitbull that moved in next door and my 2 year old daughter sticking her hands through the fence so I am planting them to keep her away from the fence.

Everyone here has given you great advice on watering. Cacti also like sun, plenty of sun. Mine are in front of a SW facing patio door for winter and various colder and/or rainy days and go out on the deck with a southern exposure during the summer when Mother Nature isn't trying to drown us. If yours is in lower light right now I would move to somewhere brighter if you're able but do so gradually as in my experience even a cactus can burn if moved to quickly to bright light. Welcome to the plant addict collection club. Be careful. I had reached a point where not only was my living room infested with leafy friends, but I had an entire bedroom dedicated to my plants, most of which where cacti and succulents. There are so many variations of size, shape, color, flower size/shape/color, variegation, growth habit etc that you can amass a small army before you know it, and if you're at all like me the stores and garden centres in your area have run out of things you don't already have so now you're online shopping for more exotic and rare plants and seeds that now it's just become ridiculous.
